  2. OPTIC – Analyzing Artwork • O- Write a brief overview of the painting. • P- Key in on all of the partsby noting any details that seem important. This can be anything: color, figures, textures, scenery, etc. • T- Use the title to clarify the subject of the painting. Explain relation between title and the image • I- Specify the interrelationships in the painting. Explain how the parts related both to one another and the painting as a whole. • C- Draw a conclusion about the painting as a whole. • Painting 1: Childhood • Painting 2: Youth • Painting 3: Manhood • Painting 4: • Old Age

Unifying Statement: • After considering all of the paintings in the series “The Voyage of Life”, by Thomas Cole, make a single, unifying statement that answers the following question: • What statement is Cole attempting to make about the nature of life? • The direct response to this question should be no longer than one or two sentences, but you should then write a paragraph (using evidence of course) that thoroughly explains your unifying statement.
