  1. 1st and 2nd declension Adjectives • EVERY ADJECTIVE MUST AGREE WITH THE NOUN IT MODIFIES • IN • NUMBER • GENDER • & CASE

  2. NUMBER • IF THE NOUN IS SING SO MUST THE ADJECTIVE BE SINGULAR • puella bona, puellae bonae, puellae bonae, puellam bonam, puellA bonA • IF THE NOUN IS PLURAL SO MUST THE ADJECTIVE BE PLURAL • puellae bonae, puellarum bonarum, puellis bonis, puellas bonas, puellis bonis

  3. 1st and 2nd declension adjective chart • M F N M F N • Nom: bonus bona bonum boni bonae bona • Gen: boni bonae boni bonorum bonarum bonorum • Dat: bono bonae bono bonis bonis bonis • Acc bonum bonam bonum bonos bonas bona • Abl bono bonA bono bonis bonis bonis

  4. Gender (and here’s the rub) • If the noun is masculine so must the adjective be masculine • If it is feminine, I need the feminine adjective • If Neuter, then I need the neuter endings. • Pretty simple, but what about words like Nauta, ae, m, sailor? • Nota Bene: I need masculine endings for the adj...use the adj chart

  5. Case and Practice • Case is easy...if the noun is dative I need the dative of the adjective • etc, etc, so let’s practice • to the good friend • for the good girls • of the good horses • of the good sailors • The bad boy waits for the good girls.

  6. CASE • Case is easy...if the noun is dative I need the dative of the adjective • etc, etc, so let’s practice • to the good friend amico bono (dat/masc/sing) • for the good girls puellis bonis (dat/fem/pl) • of the good horses equorum bonorum (gen/masc/pl) • of the good sailors nautarum bonorum (gen/masc/pl) • The bad boy waits for the good girls. Puer malus puellas bonas expectat.
