  3. I will solve problems by drawing a diagram. Main Idea/Vocabulary

  4. A frog and a cricket start at the same place and jump in the same direction. The table shows the distance they jump each time. If the frog jumps 15 times and the cricket jumps 25 times, how many times will they land in the same place? Example 1

  5. Understand What facts do you know? • The distance each animal jumps. What do you need to find? • Find the number of jumps each animal will make before landing in the same place. Example 1

  6. Plan Solve the problem by drawing a diagram. Example 1

  7. Solve Use your plan to solve the problem. Draw a diagram to show how many jumps each animal makes. Example 1

  8. Solve The animals meet after every 3 jumps by the frog and every 5 jumps by the cricket. The animals will land in the same place after the frog jumps three, six, nine, twelve, and fifteen times. Answer:So, the animals will land in the same place 5 times. Example 1

  9. Check Look back at the problem. Divide the total number of feet jumped by the LCM of 3 and 5 to find how many times the animals are in the same place. Since 75 ÷ 15 is 5, the answer is correct. Example 1
