Characters • Only introduced to the hands, shoulder and foot of a character. • Foot on gun connotes the character is violence and has power. • Close up of hand and flame connotes fear, rage and destruction. • Low-key lighting makes it feel scary, dark and trapped. • Most cuts fade into black which connotes death. • Establishing shot at the end of the scene of an island gives us an idea of where we are. • I think the opening scene is successful because the non-diegetic music gives off a classic thriller feel and the mystery of not knowing much about the character makes you feel uncomfortable. However, I don’t think enough detail is given to hook the audience.
