  1. OUR BIOME PROJECT By: Laylani Jones Yajaira Hernandez, Makala Cosby, and Chesley Brown. AKA: Sour watermelon buttergutter thangs

  2. WEATHER -The average temperature is 20-25 degrees celsuis and varies little throughout the year. - The average temperatures three warmest and three coldest months do not differ by more than five degrees. -Vegetation continuosly recycles carbon dioxide into oxygen. - About twenty percent of earths oxygen is produced in the Amazon rainforest. - The rainfall can get as low as 1.8m or (6ft) or it can get as much as 9.0 (30ft) of rain a year.

  3. PLANTS -Orchids comprise one of the most abundant and varied of flowering plant families. -There are over 20,000 known species and orchids are especially common in moist tropical regions. -Although temperate orchids usually grow in the soil, tropical orchids are more often epiphytes which grow non-parasitically on trees. -Orchid flowers vary considerably in shape color and size, although they share a common pattern of three petals and three petal-like sepals. -The lower petal has a very distinctive appearance.

  4. ANIMALS - Spider monkeys are large in size. Adult monkeys grow to be almost two feet tall excluding the tail. They have a powerful tail that they use as an extra limb. Spider monkeys like to hang upside-down with all four limbs and the tail holding on to branches which makes them look like a spider and thus their name. They also have the ability to swing from branch to branch at a high speed. Their fur color can be black, brown, golden, red, or tan. -There are about 40 different kinds of toucans. They vary in size from about 7 inches to a little over two feet. They have short and thick necks. Toucans are distinguished by large, colorful, yet lightweight bills. The color of the bill may be black, blue, brown, green, red, white, yellow or a combination of colors. The bright colors on his bill help to attract a mate. Toucans also have a narrow, feather-like tongue. They can be noisy birds with their calls sounding harsh and raspy. s in the rainforest.

  5. cont. ANIMALS -Poison-arrow frogs are social frogs found in Central and South America. They are known by their bright colors which warn other animals that they are poisonous. Its poison is one of the most powerful known and can cause paralysis or death. It is so potent that one millionth of an ounce can kill a dog and an amount smaller than a grain of salt can kill a human. One frog carries enough poison to kill about 100 people. Native hunters use it on the tips of their arrows which is how the frog got its name. -Macaws are the largest of all parrots. There are 16 different species of macaws and they range in size from a little over three feet to one foot. They have beautiful, graceful, tails that are as long or longer than their bodies. They also have long, pointed wings that enable them to fly swiftly.

  6. last cont. ANIMALS -Sloths are extremely slow-moving mammals found in the rainforest canopies of Central and South America. There are two species of sloths:two-toed and three-toed. Most sloths are about the size of a small dog and they have short, flat flat heads. Their hair is grayish brown but, at times they look grey-green in color because they move so slowly that tiny camouflaging algae grow all over their coats

  7. GEOGRAPHER -These incredible places cover only 6 %of the Earth's surface but yet they contain MORE THAN 1/2 of the world's plant and animal species! A Rainforest can be described as a tall, dense jungle. The reason it is called a "rain" forest is because of the high amount of rainfall it gets per year. The climate of a rain forest is very hot and humid so the animals and plants that exist there must learn to adapt to this climate. -The map below shows the location of the world's tropical rainforests. Rainforests cover only a small part of the earth's surface - about 6%, yet they are home to over half the species of plants and animals in the world.
