  1. Traditional Education First Nations people had their own education prior to contact. They taught their children how to survive off the land. They shared their knowledge through the oral tradition. Industrial/Residential Schools The government of Canada embarked on a rigorous effort to assimilate First Nations people and to remake them into the image of the European.
