  20. Birthday Celebrations • In keeping with our district nutrition policy, we will not be having birthday treats in the classroom. We will celebrate in other non-food ways in the classroom. • Summer birthdays can be celebrated at anytime during the year, please talk with me to set this up. • Please do not pass out party invitations in class, as this can cause hurt feelings to those children not invited.

  21. Snack • Please send in a snack each day • WE ARE A NUT-FREE CLASSROOM!! • This will happen during “snack and story time”, at the carpet, so please be mindful when choosing a snack. • For healthy, nut-free ideas, visit http://snacksafely.com/snacklist.pdf

  22. WE FILL BUCKETS!! This year Creekside is all about FILLING BUCKETS. There will be more information about this at a Parent Bucket Filling Workshop on September 30th at 7pm • When you are kind and helpful you fill someone’s internal bucket. When you do something unkind, you empty their bucket (as well as your own). • Many growth and learning opportunities in terms of behavior. This is a learning time.  • We will fill out buckets with “warm and fuzzy” feelings! We also are a “Leader in Me” school. We practice the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Leadership Skills. • You can find more information about this Creekside Philosophy on our school website!

  23. Volunteering • Parent volunteers working with students will begin after the first few weeks of school, as I want to foster independence and an “I Can Do It” attitude. • Parent volunteers may work in the work room during these first weeks on prep work. • More “job specific” information/sign up opportunities will be offered at curriculum night.

  24. No regular homework is given. • Ask that you read (or child reads) 15 minutes a night and practice sight words (will come later). • Please set aside a “book box/tub” for our small readers! • There are occasionally special projects that will be sent home that usually require adult assistance.

  25. Curriculum Night September 19th • This is when we will go into depth about our Kindergarten Curriculum: • Please set aside box/ tub for little reading books. • Phonics based reading program (Fountas & Pinnell) • Everyday Math • Lucy Caulkins Writing (new this year) • Social studies (My World), Health (My Body), and Science (plants, solids and liquids, 5 senses, and rocks)

  26. STAR STUDENT Calendar with available dates on Writing Center Table. Please sign up today if you can! Students who aren’t signed up will be assigned a free week and I will contact to let families know. Their All About Me poster will go home with them the Friday before their week!
