The whole process • Freshman/Sophomore year • Work hard in your classes • GPA is easy to destroy and hard to rebuild • Practice Realism • Volunteer/Shadow/Attend speakers • Start writing your personal statement • Act responsibly • Junior Year • Finish required course work • Continue to volunteer and shadow • Exam Preparation • Take entrance exams • Apply to your schools…summer! • Senior Year • Take challenging classes • Wait for and then immediately fill out secondary application • Interview • Wait… Clinical exposure is a MUST Schools have rescinded offers

  8. Advising • We work in concert with your academic advisor to make sure that you have all of the requirements met for your professional school program • Easy for medical school • More requirements for dental, vet, optometry, and PT • Have advising “cheat sheets” for all students to use

Medical School Course Requirements • Chemistry • CH105-6 • CH351-2 • CH361 • Biology • BI202-3 • Physics • PH107-8 • Psychology • SW250-PS • Sociology • SW200-SO • Math • Statistics – Some experience with stats • Calculus – Not a bad idea… These are new…you will need them in 2015 for the MCAT BI202-3 can be taken in the sophomore, junior, or senior year…unless you’re a bio major.

  15. Personalized Assessment • During the 2nd semester of your sophomore year, you must meet individually with me! • We look at transcript • We talk about professional development • We make an assessment and prediction of your success. • This meeting is mandatory for all sophomores…so expect it.

Professional Mentoring Program • In the spring of your sophomore year, you are invited to a pre-health network reception. • Chance to chat with folks in your area. • Make connections, begin a professional relationship • Discuss current issues, plan to shadow, etc. • More info sent out next fall!!!
