  3. What happens if you mix the wrong blood types? • The antibodies made will stick to the red blood cells and cause clumping. • The clumping is called agglutination.

  4. The Rh Factor • Humans may have a second antigen present on red blood cells. • Most likely caused by dominant gene • If you have it , you are Rh (+) • If you don’t have it, you are Rh (-)

  5. Rh disease • Happens when mom is Rh- and dad is Rh+ • If baby is Rh+, mom will produce Rh antibodies. • First baby may be OK, but second???? • Treatment: Drug called Rhogam.
