Faculty of EducationMaster’s Degree Programme in Education and Globalisation • Full-time two-year Master’s degree programme, 120 credits • Language of instruction: English • Annual student intake: 20 students (Finnish or international) • First intake in 2006 • Funding from the Ministry of Education for two years (2006, 2007) • Official accreditation: Ministry of Education Decree on Master's Degree Programmes (1359/2006) • Degree: MA (Education), Major subject: Educational science • Prerequisites: • Bachelor’s or equivalent higher education degree (preference to students with background in education) • Sufficient English language proficiency • Possibility to continue for doctoral studies • Degree does not constitute a formal teaching qualification

Master’s DP in Education and Globalisation: AIMS • to develop appropriate competencies and knowledge needed in planning, evaluation, research and development tasks in education and related fields in the middle of societal changes, both in local and global levels • to provide special qualifications for developing educational systems and the quality of education, and for leading educational or social change in the globalised world • to provide academic skills and knowledge for doctoral studies in the field of education • to develop intercultural competencies for working in international contexts

Master’s DP in Education and Globalisation: Application Statistics • Selection 2006 • 1st stage: 76 applications from 17 different nationalities • 2nd stage/interview: 55 applicants, 14 different nationalities • Final selection: 20 students, 9 different nationalities • 12 female, 8 male (average age 34) (non-EU 10, EU 10) • Armenian, British, Chinese, Finnish, Malaysian, Nigerian, Polish, Russian, Somali • Selection 2007 • 1st stage: 100 applications from 31 different nationalities • 2nd stage/interview: 60 applicants, 26 different nationalities • Final selection: 20 students, 18 different nationalities • 11 female, 9 male (average age 30) (non-EU 15, EU 5) • Australian, Bangladeshi, Brazilian, British, Bulgarian, Cameroonian, Chinese, Dutch, Finnish, Ghanaian, Japanese, Namibian, Pakistani, Russian, Slovenian, South-African, Tanzanian, Turkish

Master’s DP in Education and Globalisation Challenges for programme coordination: Resources • Staff resources, time resources, financial resources & budgeting • Minimum requirement for coordination: Academic Director, Administrative Coordinator, Steering Group Faculty Procedures (statutory processes) • Department Council (contents, finances, reporting to faculty board) • Faculty Board (selection criteria, intake, curriculum, approval of Master’s theses, granting of degrees, etc)
