  1. RECOGNITION THE MESSIANIC PROPHECY BIBLE PROJECT http://www.messianicbible.com HEAR O ISRAEL www.hearoisrael.org SHEEPFOLD GLEANINGS WRITTEN BY JULIE PARKER www.sheepfoldgleanings.com MESSIANIC ISRAEL ALLIANCE http://www.messianicisrael.com AZAMRA TORAH FOR OUR TIME – RABBI AVRAHAM GREENBAUM http://www.azamra.org

  2. EMOR “Speak” TORAH: Leviticus 21:1-24:23 HAFTARAH: Ezekiel 44:15-31 B’RIT CHADASHAH: Matthew 5:38-42, Galatians 3:26-29 All references: The Scripture 1998+ unless otherwise noted

  3. EMOR Spelled “Aleph-mem-reish”. - âmarpronoucedaw-mar' A primitive root; to say (used with great latitude): - answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, + (at the, give) command (ment), commune, consider, declare, demand The numeric value of the letters is 241, which equals “ra-ah” (to see), and “Tsephanyah” (hidden in Yah) and “gibor” or “mighty”. And in this parsha, “Emor” has a mighty, or powerful function. In fact, YHVH uses this word, as “Speak” ten times in these 4 chapters.

  4. NOT TO BE DEFILED Leviticus 21:1-12 And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aharon, and say to them: ‘No one is to be defiled for the dead among his people, except for his relatives who are nearest to him: they do not make any bald place on their heads, and they do not shave the corner of their beard, and they do not make a cutting in their flesh. ‘They are set-apart to their Elohim and do not profane the Name of their Elohim, for they bring the offerings of יהוה made by fire, and the bread of their Elohim, and shall be set-apart. ‘They do not take a woman who is a whore or a defiled woman, ... for the sign of dedication of the anointing oil of his Elohim is upon him. I am יהוה.

  5. RELATION TO US Drawing near to Him, a living Stone – rejected indeed by men, but chosen by Elohim and precious – you also, as living stones, are being built up, a spiritual house, a set-apart priesthood, to offer up spiritual slaughter offerings acceptable to Elohim through יהושע Messiah. ... But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light, who once were not a people, but now the people of Elohim; who had not obtained compassion, but now obtained compassion. (1 Peter 2:4-10) We are not only “called” (as in VaYiqra); but, we are also “chosen” and ordained as “priests”. And, we as priests must not profane or defile ourselves. If you want “Netzach” (Victory) in your life, don’t defile yourself to profane יהוה.

  6. PRIESTS The High Priest of Israel, were not permitted to come before the Lord if they had a blemish. The importance of this for us is if we do consider ourselves to be priests of the Holy One of Israel He has high expectations for us and failure to follow His teachings may cause us to profane His sanctuaries. Or do you not know that your body is the Dwelling Place of the Set-apart Spirit who is in you, which you have from Elohim, and you are not your own? (1 Corinthians 6:19 ) Some say if you drink you are not honouring the temple, your body, the same if you smoke, etc. What we must keep in mind is what Scripture has to say about these things. Hear, my son, and be wise, And guide your heart in the way. Be not among heavy drinkers of wine Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; For the drunkard and the glutton become poor, And slumber puts rags on a man. (Proverbs 23:19-21 ) Drinking, in and of itself, is not evil because wine is normally a requirement for the Kiddush, the abuse thereof is.

  7. PAGAN PRACTICES The making of a bald spot: Pagan priests cut a circular bald spot on top of their heads in honour of the solar disc (the sun god). Christian leaders, first at Alexandria and Rome, copied this hair style, called the tonsure (Lev. 21:5; Deut. 14:1). It is still used today by certain monastic orders. To "round the edge of your head" means to cut off the hair around the sides of the head. Many exegetes associate this with the pagan "bowl-cut". A bowl-cut was an ancient hair-cut with pagan significance that was created by placing a round bowl on the head and cutting all the exposed hair. The shaving of the corners of the beard and the cutting of the flesh, were all pagan practices that were used by certain groups and peoples to identify with the false יהוה that they served during mourning.

  8. BRINGING THE BREAD ‘And you shall set him apart, for he brings the bread of your Elohim, he is set-apart to you. For I, יהוה, setting you apart, am set-apart. (Leviticus 21:8) The priesthood is set-apart because they bring the bread of our יהוה. Hebrew word here for “bread” is “lechem” #3899. Means “bread”, “showbread”, “food” and “banquet”. Two symbols: “Showbread”, representing the twelve tribes of Yisra‟el, before Yahweh in the Mishkan (Tabernacle) and the Beit Ha Mikdash (the Temple). Torah being the “Bread of Life”. John 6:30-36 and continues in verse 47-51

  9. TO DO BATTLE “lechem” comes from the root word “lacham”, different vowel points. “Lacham” means to “make war” or “to do battle”. So, in bringing the “bread of Elohim”, the priest “feeds” the Children of Yisra’el and arms them for “battle”. “Lechem” or “lacham” (lamed-chet-mem). Lamed is the shepherd’s staff and means “to teach” or “learn”. Chet means “life” and mem is “water”. Because it’s a final mem, it represents the water that flows deep within or comes forth from the well that is hidden. By eating or taking in the “lechem” we “learn the living water”. With the bread we battle, against satan, our flesh, our own evil inclination with the deep flowing water. The value of “lechem” is 78, which equals “b’av”, which translates as “in prayer”; but, literally means “in the Father”.

  10. DEFECT ... ‘No man among the offspring of Aharon the priest, who has a defect, is to come near to bring the offerings made by fire to יהוה – he has a defect, ..lest he profanes My set-apart places. For I am יהוה, who sets them apart.’ ” .. (Leviticus 21:13-24 ) The word here for “defect” is “muwm”, 3971, meaning any “physical blemish” or “moral stain”. Spelled mem-aleph-vav-mem. Mem is “water” Aleph is “master” Vav“connects”. So, the outer or upper water the master connects to the lower or inner water. The numeric value of “muwm” is 87 which equals “h‟qabas” or “is washed”, as from above, also “laban‟eh” or “to be made white”, “l‟mizbe‟ach” or “at the altar” and “AbYada” or “Fathers knows”. With יהושע, we can take our defect, our blemished self and be washed from above, made white at the altar and be “yada” known of our Father.

  11. DEFECTS “not a blind man”: While there are several Hebrew words for “blind”, this verse uses “ivare” which speaks about having “scales” or a “film” over the eyes. This is referring to blindness in the spiritual sense. The“lame” man: There are several words for “lame”. But here, “pise’ach” is used and it means “to limp”; but comes from the root word “pesach” which means to “passover”, again making the spiritual connection to our “walk”. “disfigured”: The Hebrew word here is “charam” #2763 (chet-reish-mem) and means “to utterly destroy”, “to put under the ban” (no possibility of redemption), to “mutilate” or “split” part of one’s body, to “constrict the nose” or better said “to bore through the nose” so to lead an ox, camel or beast about. But, it also means to “be devoted to” and is another word for “consecrated”.

  12. DEFECTS “deformed”: The KJV says “anything superfluous”. The Hebrew word is “sara” and means “extended” or “stretched out” and, according to Lexicon, refers to someone whose ears are too long or too big, either by birth or mutilation. This may be referring to the pagan practice of enlarging the earlobes; or it may also mean listening to evil talk, such as “lashonhara”. “broken foot”: “Sheberregel”. “Sheber” also means to “break down” or “interpret” as with a dream. “Regel” literally means “of El”. Could suggest someone who interprets dreams from Elohim. The root word for “regel” is “ragal” and means “to slander” or be a “tale bearer”. So, the connotation here is of “false interpretations”, even to the extent of purposefully lying in the Name of Elohim. “broken hand”: “Sheberyad”. “yad” is “hand”, but also “time” or “sign” along with “interpreting”. So, this is also referring to misinterpreting the “signs of the times”.

  13. DEFECTS “hunchback”: “Gibein” refers to someone who can’t straighten up. It also means to “be cowardly”. This is followed by “dwarf” or “dak” which actually means “small”, “thin”, “gaunt ” or “emaciated”. “a defect in his eye”: “Teballulayin”, “Teballul” means “confused”. So a man, who’s confused in his vision or by what he sees, isn’t focused on YHVH. “eczema”: “Qarab” which refers to “itching” or a “burning” in the skin or flesh. In Hebrew thought, it refers to “lust”. “scab” : “yallepheth” a rash “which is contagious”.

  14. DEFECTS “eunuch”: “Eshekmero’akh”. “Eshek” is translated as “stones” or as “testicles”. “Mero’akh” is “bruised” or “damaged”. A picture of our ability, or lack thereof, to bring forth progeny, or add to the kingdom. “Eshek” is spelled aleph-shin-kaf which literally represents “Master El Shaddai’s palm”. Genesis 23 we have the account of Eliezer, Abraham’s oldest servant, placing his hand under Abraham’s thigh and swearing that he would take a wife for Yitzaq from Abraham’s relatives. In like manner, Ya’aqob has Yosef swear to bury him with his fathers in Hebron. These men swore oaths by the seed of the Hebrew people. The seed of all Yisra’el is still in the palm of El Shaddai (El is Sufficient).

  15. PROFANE “And you shall guard My commands and do them. I am יהוה. “And do not profane My set-apart Name, and I shall be set-apart among the children of Yisra’ĕl. I am יהוה, who sets you apart, (Leviticus 22:31-32) The Hebrew word for profane is chalal, and it means not only to profane, but to make common, defile, pollute, or to act against. It appears 12 times in our Torah reading this week, however, the holy Name of יהוה is used 81 times! Chalal is also used in the context of a dead body: “When anyone is found slain, lying in the field in the land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you to possess, and it is not known who smote him, (Deuteronomy 21:1 ) Death is the antithesis of life. יהוה is about life and everything associated with life. The realm of the holy is distinctly different than the world with its imperfections and death. However, יהוה provides a way for holiness to operate in the world as long as its integrity is maintained.

  16. ISREAL Why did יהוה set the nation of Israel apart? Israel was to be an example to all other nations of the existence of, the power of, the greatness of, and the HOLINESS of יהוה. When they lived according to His commandments, their lives reflected His Holiness. Their failure to maintain the covenant He made with them by keeping His commandments, PROFANED His Name and brought about their exile. Nevertheless, יהוה is above the weaknesses of mortals and thus will bring about the deliverance of His people for the glory of His Name. We call that – RESTORATION: “And I shall make My set-apart Name known in the midst of My people Yisra’ĕl, and not let My set-apart Name be profaned any more. And the gentiles shall know that I am יהוה, the Set-apart One in Yisra’ĕl. (Ezekiel 39:7)

  17. RESTORATION The restoration plan of the Almighty to restore holiness to His Name is laid out for us in the festivals. Keeping the festivals reflects the holiness of the Father. It is also a connection for us into the realm of holiness. The revival of these festivals in our world today is evidence that יהוה has once again begun to act on behalf of His people in a prophetic way. For hundreds of years, these festivals of Vayikra 23 have been known as “Jewish festivals” HOWEVER the Bible describes them as: And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and say to them, ‘The appointed times of יהוה, which you are to proclaim as set-apart gatherings, My appointed times, are these: (Leviticus 23:1-2) “the appointed seasons of יהוה”. Nowhere in the Hebrew Scriptures will you see these feasts that are listed here in Torah as belonging only to the Jews. In the book of John, Passover is referred to as a Jewish feast, because by then the Jews were the ONLY tribe faithfully keeping the feast.

  18. TO BETROTH יהוה is holy, but holiness is also imputed to persons, places, objects, and special times. The word for appointed seasons (moed) comes from a root which can mean “to betroth”. Today these moed are memorials of past acts of Elohim, and are also prophetic of our future. How heartbreaking to the Father that these festivals that He instituted and commanded for us to keep in order that we would know the entire plan of redemption have been replaced by man made holidays! Today we look at these appointments as wedding rehearsals where we are able to gather in unity as the body of Messiah. Let no one therefore judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths – which are a shadow of what is to come – but the Body of the Messiah. (Colossians 2:16-17 )

  19. SHABBAT ‘Six days work is done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a set-apart gathering. You do no work, it is a Sabbath to יהוה in all your dwellings. (Leviticus 23:3) “Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart. “Six days you labour, and shall do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of יהוה your Elohim. You do not do any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. (Exodus 20:8-10) Note: Translators have gone out of their way to remove the Torah: For Messiah is the goal1 of the ‘Torah unto righteousness’ to everyone who believes. Footnote: 1Or end purpose; not termination. (Romans 10:4)English bible translators: For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. (Romans 10:4 NKJV). That’s like saying to someone who is engaged, “Marriage is the end of your relationship!”

  20. SEVENTH DAY And on the seventh day Elohim completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And Elohim blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because on it He rested from all His work which Elohim in creating had made. (Genesis 2:2-3) The Sabbath was created as the seventh day. It is the only day in the Scriptures which has an actual name. It is the only day declared to be holy, or set apart from the others. And it is also the only day of the week created without “evening and morning”. Because the Sabbath was created without evening and morning, it is a picture of the timelessness of יהוה. When we keep the Sabbath, we are able to participate in His timelessness with Him. On the seventh day, it is said that Elohim created “rest”. Therefore, peace, harmony, tranquillity and rest are part of His attributes. In the words of יהושע : “Come to Me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I shall give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

  21. TO REST We are to remember “to rest” on the Sabbath. That is…to cease from doing normal activities, and to seek the Author of tranquillity and peace. That is the thought behind, “Shabbat Shalom”! All other commandments require us to “do” something. Sabbath is a welcome reprieve. A pastor was visiting a rabbi friend, when the pastor asked, “What do you believe heaven is like?” The rabbi responded, “Where the righteous dwell for eternity, one may study Torah all day long, without ever having need to stop for sleeping or eating or anything.” The pastor then asked, “And what do you believe hell will be like?” The rabbi responded, “The wicked will have to study Torah all day long, without being able to stop to rest or drink or anything.”

  22. 1st FEAST – PESACH ‘In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, between the evenings, is the Passover to יהוה. (Leviticus 23:5) יהושע died on Pesach because the Torah decreed in eternity past that it would be so. To be sure one of his more famous titles is "the Lamb slain from the foundations of the world". Also, as can be seen in the Scriptures, the Pesach Lamb represents an offering for all that will apply the blood to the "entry way" of the heart

  23. 1st FEAST – Feast of MATZAH ‘And on the fifteenth day of this month is the Festival of Unleavened Bread to יהוה – seven days you eat unleavened bread. ‘On the first day you have a set-apart gathering, you do no servile work. ‘And you shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה for seven days. On the seventh day is a set-apart gathering, you do no servile work.’ ” (Leviticus 23:6-8) Ordinary - H5656 work of any kind: - act, bondage, + bondservant, effect, labour, ministering (-try) Therefore cleanse out the old leaven, so that you are a new lump, as you are unleavened. For also Messiah our Passover was offered for us. So then let us observe the festival, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of evil and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. (1 Corinthians 5:7-8 )

  24. 1st FEAST – DAY OF FIRST FRUITS “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and you shall say to them, ‘When you come into the land which I give you, and shall reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first-fruits of your harvest to the priest. ‘And he shall wave the sheaf before יהוה, for your acceptance. On the morrow after the Sabbath the priest waves it. ‘And on that day when you wave the sheaf, you shall prepare a male lamb a year old, a perfect one, as a burnt offering to יהוה, ...‘And you do not eat bread or roasted grain or fresh grain until the same day that you have brought an offering to your Elohim – a law forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. (Leviticus 23:10-14) The event know as "Bikkurim" (say "Bee-koo-reem"), stems from the Hebrew word "bakkar" which describes the action which first breaks the matrix of the female womb. In other words, this root word always refers to the "firstling". Reference to Passover Sunday

  25. 2nd FEAST - SHAVOUT ‘And from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, you shall count for yourselves: seven completed Sabbaths. ‘Until the morrow after the seventh Sabbath you count fifty days, then you shall bring a new grain offering to יהוה. ‘Bring from your dwellings for a wave offering two loaves of bread, .. first-fruits to יהוה. ‘And besides the bread, you shall bring seven lambs a year old, perfect ones, and one young bull and two rams. They are a burnt offering to יהוה, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, an offering made by fire for a sweet fragrance to יהוה. ‘And you shall offer one male goat as a sin offering, and two male lambs a year old, as a peace offering. ‘And the priest shall wave them, besides the bread of the first-fruits, as a wave offering before יהוה, besides the two lambs. They are set-apart to יהוה for the priest. ‘And on this same day you shall proclaim a set-apart gathering for yourselves, you do no servile work on it – a law forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations. (Leviticus 23:15-21)

  26. PROBLEM Day of first fruit- Jewish tradition 15th day of first month. But now Messiah has been raised from the dead, and has become the first-fruit of those having fallen asleep. (1 Corinthians 15:20) “For as Yonah was three days and three nights in the stomach of the great fish, so shall the Son of Aḏam be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12:40) Now after the Sabbath, toward dawn on the first day of the week, Miryam from Maḡdala and the other Miryam came to see the tomb. (Matthew 28:1) יהושע said to her, “Do not hold on to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My Elohim and your Elohim.’ ”(John 20:17 )

  27. COUNTING THE OMER This event is also known by the title "Lag b’Omer", that is "Counting the Omer“ The Hebrew word for "sheaf" is "omer". It is transition time, means crossing over. It is a time to look at how you will consume and unlock the supply for the future. It is a time to show your desire for Revelation from God to come alive in you. The first thing you do is to stop and count your blessings, and then bless God. Second to press your self in spiritual improvement, new relationships, new respect, spiritual connection and restoration from the mistakes of the past and to develop a triumphant mindset for the season ahead.

  28. SHAVOUT, TORAH & HOLY SPIRIT Historically, the rabbis figure the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai to have occurred on this day, that is, in the third month after Am Yisra’el came out of Egypt. And it came to be, on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain. And the sound of the ram’s horn was very loud, and all the people who were in the camp trembled. (Exodus 19:16) And suddenly there came a sound from the heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and settled on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Set-apart Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them to speak. (Acts 2:2-4 ) Both the giving of the Torah and the RuachHaKodesh were accompanied by fire, noise, and HaShem speaking

  29. SHAVOUT The Hebrew word for week is "shavuah", its plural is "shavu’ot". Both of these words come from the root word for "seven". This is where the festival gets its name. Shavu'ot is the annual counting of seven weeks of days, hence forty-nine days. This yearly count is listed in the Torah as a mitzvah, a command from HaShem himself. The name "Pentecost", from the Greek word "pentekoste", means "fifty days", as the Torah instructed Am Yisra’el (the people of Isra’el) to add the final day after the seventh week. “And I shall give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you. And I shall take the heart of stone out of your flesh, and I shall give you a heart of flesh, and put My Spirit within you. And I shall cause you to walk in My laws and guard My right-rulings and shall do them. (Ezekiel 36:26-27 )

  30. LIVING WITHIN THE CIRCLE ‘And when you reap the harvest of your land do not completely reap the corners of your field when you reap, and do not gather any gleaning from your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the stranger. I am יהוה your Elohim.’ ” (Leviticus 23:22 )

  31. 3rd FEAST – Rosh Hashanah / Yom T’ruah / Feast of Trumpets And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you have a rest, a remembrance of blowing of trumpets, a set-apart gathering. ‘You do no servile work, and you shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה.’ ” And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, (Leviticus 23:23-26) In rabbinical thinking, these last festivals are known as the "season of t’shuvah", the season of our repentance. The biblical name for this festival is called Yom T’ruah, meaning "Day of the Awakening (trumpet) Blast“ or "Rosh HaShanah". This name literally means "Head of the Year", from the Hebrew words "rosh", meaning "head" or "beginning", and "shanah" meaning "year“ Tishrei. It gained this title when the rabbis created the civil calendar to be used by all Jews living in the Land of Isra’el. It eventually became the standard for all Jews everywhere.

  32. 3rd FEAST – Day of atonement “On the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be a set-apart gathering for you. And you shall afflict your beings, and shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. “And you do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before יהוה your Elohim. “For any being who is not afflicted on that same day, he shall be cut off from his people. “And any being who does any work on that same day, that being I shall destroy from the midst of his people. “You do no work – a law forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. ‘It is a Sabbath of rest to you, and you shall afflict your beings. On the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you observe your Sabbath.” (Leviticus 23:27-32) The word kippur means atonement from the Hebrew word kapporet, which is the cover to the Ark of the Covenant. The Mercy Seat is where HaShem spoke to Moshe face to face and where the blood of the atoning animal was offered once a year.

  33. 3rd FEAST – SUKKOT And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the Festival of Booths for seven days to יהוה. ‘On the first day is a set-apart gathering, you do no servile work. ‘For seven days you bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. On the eighth day there shall be a set-apart gathering for you, and you shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. It is a closing festival, you do no servile work. ‘These are the appointed times of יהוה which you proclaim as set-apart gatherings, to bring an offering made by fire to יהוה, a burnt offering and a grain offering, a slaughtering and drink offerings, as commanded for every day – besides the Sabbaths of יהוה, and besides your gifts, and besides all your vows, and besides all your voluntary offerings which you give to יהוה. ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you gather in the fruit of the land, observe the festival of יהוה for seven days. On the first day is a rest, and on the eighth day a rest. ... a law forever in your generations. Observe it in the seventh month. ‘Dwell in booths for seven days; .. I am יהוה your Elohim.’ ” (Leviticus 23:33-43)

  34. 8TH DAY .. the eighth day .. shall be a set-apart gathering .. (Leviticus 23:36) The seven day Feast of Tabernacles is a prophetic picture of the 7th millennium when King יהושע will reign on earth from His headquarters in Jerusalem. He will have defeated all of His enemies, and peace will reign on the earth. After that comes the 8th Day, also known as SheminiAtzeret: Eight (Shemini) is the Biblical number of new beginnings Eight points to what happens after man’s 7,000 years on this earth, which we refer to as eternity Pictures the New Heavens and the New Earth (Rev 21 & 22) Atzeret is derived from atzar, meaning “to collect or to store” 8th Day purpose – to recap and to store in our remembrance everything we experienced (during the Feast of Tabernacles) in order to retain the spiritual elevation we have achieved This day is Messiah’s desire for us to remain behind with Him for yet one more day (i.e. eternity)

  35. BECOMING ONE The book of Numbers gives more details about the offerings made during the Feast of Tabernacles and the 8th Day Feast. During the Feast of Tabernacles, 70 bulls are sacrificed. On SheminiAtzeret, only 1 bull is sacrificed. Why? Seventy is a number that represents the nations of the world. The one bull represents the future…. one bull represents all of the 70 nations who have joined themselves to Israel, the bride who will enter into eternity with her Bridegroom on that 8th Day. The following is a short story from the sages which reflects our Bridegroom’s desire: A king held a festival for seven days and invited all of the country’s inhabitants (the nations of the world) to the seven days of feasting. When the seven days of feasting were over, he said to his friend (Israel), “Let us now have a small meal together, just you and I.”

  36. TIME TO REJOICE There is a story in the Apostolic Scriptures that happened on the 8th Day. To give the context, we will look at another event that happened during the Feast of Tabernacles called “The Rejoicing in the House of the Water Pouring.” This event is not mentioned in the Torah, but it was a tradition during the feast by the time of יהושע. The water pouring would occur with great joy. In fact the Talmud states, “He who has not seen the rejoicing at the place of the water-drawing has never seen rejoicing in his life.” The Feast of Tabernacles is actually the only feast where hwhy commands us to be joy filled: “Perform the Festival of Booths for seven days after the ingathering from your threshing-floor and from your winepress, and you shall rejoice in your festival, you and your son and your daughter, and your male servant and your female servant, and the Lĕwite, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates. (Deuteronomy 16:13-14)

  37. WATER POURING CEREMONYEddie Chumney “The Seven Festivals of the Messiah” During the water pouring ceremony, waters were drawn from the Pool of Siloam. This water was referred to as the “waters of salvation (Yeshua)”. The celebration was held every day of the Feast, with the exception of Sabbath and the first day. To perform the ceremony, the priests were divided into three divisions: Division One – the priests on duty in the Temple who would slay the sacrifices as instructed in Numbers 29. Division Two – these priests would go out to a valley where they would cut willows. The willows had to be 25 feet in length. Then they would form a line, each holding a willow…about 25 to 30 feet apart which would allow room for swinging the willows. They would form several rows like this leading from the Pool of Siloam to the Temple. When the signal was given, the priests would step to the side with their left foot and then their right, swinging the willows back and forth.

  38. WATER POURING CEREMONYEddie Chumney “The Seven Festivals of the Messiah” Division Three – these priests, headed by the High Priest, went down to the Pool of Siloam (John 9:7) where the High Priest had a golden vase and would draw the water known as living waters (mayimchayim). His assistant held a silver vase containing wine. The road back to the Temple would be filled with pilgrims who were in Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast. As the priest made their way back to the Temple, the second division priests also began their march back to the Temple swishing their willows in unison. Remember that the word for spirit in Hebrew means both spirit and wind. Thus it is an awesome picture of the Spirit coming upon the city of Jerusalem. When the priests reached the gate, a man would begin to play the flute. He was called “the pierced one” and was another picture of the Messiah.

  39. WATER POURING CEREMONYEddie Chumney “The Seven Festivals of the Messiah” The flute player led the procession, blowing and calling for the wind and water to enter the Temple. The priests with the willows circled the altar of sacrifice seven times. The priests who had slain the sacrifices then ascended the altar and began to lay the sacrifices on the fires. The High Priest and his assistant ascended the altar as all the people of Israel were gathered into the courts. They began to sing the song Mayim, saying “With joy shall you draw out of the wells of salvation” (Isaiah 12:3). The High Priest took his vase and poured its contents on one of the corners of the altar where the horns were. There were two bowls built into the altar. Each bowl had a hole in it. The water and the wine were poured out over the altar as the priests who had the willows, started laying them against the altar, forming a sukkah (booth or tabernacle).

  40. יהושע THE LIVING WATER And on the last day, the great day of the festival, יהושע stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me, and let him who believes in Me drink. (John 7:37) During the festival יהושע breaks into what was probably a very quiet and intense moment with the above words. The disciple John writes of the controversy that occurred as a result. Some wanted to seize יהושע, but the Father’s hand of protection was on Him. The Pharisees did not see how this man could possibly fit in with their interpretation of Torah. Now all of this information about the water pouring ceremony has been context for what happens next….on the 8th Day: And יהושע went to the Mount of Olives. And at dawn He came again into the Set-apart Place, and all the people were coming to Him. And having sat down, He was teaching them. (John 8:1-2) This is the day following the last day of the Feast of Sukkot. It is the 8th Day…SheminiAtzeret. Look what happens on that day:

  41. WRITTEN IN THE EARTH And the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And having set her in the midst, they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. “And in the Torah Mosheh commanded us that such should be stoned. What then do You say?” And this they said, trying Him, so that they might accuse Him. But יהושע, bending down, wrote on the ground with the finger, as though He did not hear. But as they kept on questioning Him, He straightened up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” (John 8:3-7) There are many stories about what is written. However the fact that this event follows the water pouring ceremony of the Feast of Tabernacles is very important to keep in mind. O יהוה, the expectation of Yisra’ĕl, all who forsake You are put to shame. “Those who depart from Me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken יהוה, the fountain of living waters.” (Jeremiah 17:13)

  42. יהושע THE LIGHT Just the day before,יהושע had declared Himself to be the “fountain of living waters”. Now He finds himself confronted by Scribes and Pharisees…the very people who would be familiar with these words in Jeremiah. Object lessons that pointed you back to Scripture were a common form of Hebraic teaching. Almost everything יהושע said and did came straight from the Torah, the writings, and the prophets. Did they leave in shame after watching יהושע write their names in the earth? Did they understand that they had forsaken Him, the fountain of living waters? Read on to see what happened next: Therefore יהושע spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness, but possess the light of life.” (John 8:12) There were also Menorah lighting ceremonies that occurred during the Feast of Tabernacles. So on the day after the Feast, after moving ceremonies concerning living waters and light, יהושע claimed to be BOTH! How revealing for those who had eyes to see and who could make the connection that He was their Messiah!

  43. LIGHT And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, “Command the children of Yisra’ĕl that they bring to you clear oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually. “Outside the veil of the Witness, in the Tent of Meeting, Aharon is to arrange it from evening until morning before יהוה continually – a law forever throughout your generations. “He is to arrange the lamps on the clean gold lampstand before יהוה continually. (Leviticus 24:1-4) Light - H3974 - mâ'ôr: a luminous body or luminary, specifically a chandelier. And Elohim said, “Let light come to be,” and light came to be. (Genesis 1:3) Light - H216 - ôr: day, morning, sun. By adding the mem (or water) the light becomes “illumination”

  44. ILLUMINATION Therefore יהושע spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness, but possess the light of life.” (John 8:12) “You are the light (Illumination) of the world. It is impossible for a city to be hidden on a mountain. “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it shines to all those in the house. “Let your light so shine before men, so that they see your good works and praise your Father who is in the heavens. (Matthew 5:14-16) So, the High Priest guards the Torah, the “Illumination” of יהוה for His people.

  45. SHOWBREAD “And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it, two-tenths of an ĕphah in each cake. “And you shall set them in two rows, six in a row, on the clean table before יהוה. “And you shall put clear frankincense on each row, and it shall be on the bread as a remembrance portion, an offering made by fire to יהוה. “On every Sabbath he is to arrange it before יהוה continually, from the children of Yisra’ĕl – an everlasting covenant. “And it shall be for Aharon and his sons, and they shall eat it in the set-apart place, because it is most set-apart to him from the offerings of יהוה made by fire – an everlasting law.” (Leviticus 24:5-9) The cakes are made of two tenths of an ephah of flour. One tenth of an ephah was worth a half shekel, as in the half shekel atonement and thus represented one man. So these cakes are made up of two men, or two witnesses for each tribe. The rabbis teach that this is a picture of the twenty-four elders before the Throne of Elohim.

  46. PEACEFUL WORDS And the son of an Yisra’ĕlite woman, whose father was a Mitsrite, went out among the children of Yisra’ĕl. ... And the Yisra’ĕlite woman’s son blasphemed the Name, and cursed. ... Now his mother’s name was Shelomith the daughter of Diḇri, of the tribe of Dan. .. ‘Anyone who curses his Elohim shall bear his sin. ‘And he who blasphemes the Name of יהוה shall certainly be put to death, and all the congregation certainly stone him, the stranger as well as the native. ...‘And he who smites a beast repays it, and he who smites a man to death is put to death. ‘.. (Leviticus 24:10-23) Shelomith means peaceful and Dibri means words. The rabbis teach that we are given this information in order to remember this point. While “peaceful words” should have prevailed here, this man chose his words in anger and contempt. The Hebrew word here for “blasphemed” is “naqab” which also means to “pronounce a curse upon”, “pierce”, “stab”, “bore a hole in” or “do violence upon”.

  47. RELEVANCE OF THE TEACHING Haftorah - Ezekiel 44: 15-31. “But the priests, the Lĕwites, the sons of Tsaḏoq, who guarded the duty of My set-apart place when the children of Yisra’ĕl went astray from Me, they shall draw near to Me to serve Me, and shall stand before Me to bring to Me the fat and the blood,” declares the Master יהוה. “They shall enter My set-apart place, and they shall draw near to My table to serve Me, and they shall guard My charge. (Ezekiel 44:15-16) This is speaking of the Millennial Temple and the “the priests, Levites, the Sons of Tzadok”, who will serve יהוה during the thousand years. Tzadok was the High Priest, 11 generations after Aharon, during David‟s struggle with Absalom and Adoniyah. His name means “one who is made righteous” or “one who is declared just”. It‟s where we get the word “Tzadik” or “Righteous One”. So, the “sons of one who is made or declared righteous” will draw near and serve יהוה in His House. A kingdom of priests.
