  5. Grammar: Apostrophes This is an apostrophe: ’ It looks like a comma, but it’s placed up high. Apostrophes are used: • for contractions • to show possession

  6. Grammar: Apostrophes Contractions did not = didn’t The apostrophe is where the “o” used to be. The apostrophe means you took away one or more letters.

  7. Grammar: Apostrophes Possession David’s book = The book that belongs to David. Adding an apostrophe with an “s” means possession or belonging.

  8. Grammar: Apostrophes Possession flowers’ petals= The petals that belong to the flowers. If the noun is plural, the apostrophe comes after the “s”.
