Landline, Please • Use a landline if possible - if not, test your phone at the location and time that you will be having your interview call.  No speakerphone please. • Always check the equipment beforehand – Skype included. Dress for Success • This is an interview! • Research shows that students in ties and jackets do better than those in sweat pants. • Your brand and image is important here

Stand • Standing causes your voice to project • No slumping in a chair or looking down at the desk • A projected voice = confidence and competency • Energy and Passion Mirror Mirror on the Wall • Have a mirror or window nearby so you can watch yourself. • Am I relaxed? Am I standing tall and projecting competence and confidence? Smile • You can hear a smile over the phone

  4. Personalization and Engagement • Use the interviewer’s name once or twice during the interview and conversation. Be Prepared • Have your information and the job spec nearby • Arrange all of your notes and talking points neatly on your desk • A glass of water and some large index cards with reminders are helpful Remove all Distractions • No noise, family members, children, or pets in the background

  5. Ask Good Questions • Convey enthusiasm • Learn next steps/obtain feedback Thank Them • On the phone and via email • Don’t forget to get their contact information
