  2. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. COLOSSIANS 2.9-10

  3. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. COLOSSIANS 2.11-12

  5. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD Would you make a serious commitment without an agreement?

  6. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD Commitment without agreement leads to pain and suffering.

  7. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD God always commits to those who agree to commit to Him.

  8. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD Unconditional covenants.

  9. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD Genesis 9: God promised to never destroy the earth again with a flood.

  10. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD Conditional covenants.

  11. 3 The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: 4 You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. EXODUS 19.3-4

  12. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.” EXODUS 19.5-6

  15. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD How did Israel accept God’s covenant?

  16. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD Circumcision was important!

  17. And the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” And so the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day. JOSHUA 5.9

  18. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD Circumcision was not a mindless ritual.

  19. 12 “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today for your good? DEUTERONOMY 10.12-13

  20. 14 Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it. 15 Yet the LORD set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day. 16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn. DEUTERONOMY 10.14-16

  21. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD For New Testament Christians:

  24. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD In specific ways, your baptism was a circumcision.

  25. AN AGREEMENT WITH GOD Your baptism said “Yes” to God.

  26. 12 “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today for your good? DEUTERONOMY 10.12-13

  27. 14 Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it. 15 Yet the LORD set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day. 16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn. DEUTERONOMY 10.14-16
