  1. Welcome to Back to School Night! Language Arts 8 Support Mrs. Lehman

  2. Who is Mrs. Lehman? • Seventh year teaching and fifth year teaching middle school • Previously taught in the Grass Valley, Woodland, and Travis school districts • Earned both Master of Arts in Education and Single Subject Teaching Credential in English from University of California, Davis • Earned Bachelor of Arts in English, with a minor in Film Studies, from University of the Pacific • Loves teaching! 

  3. What will your child be doing in Language Arts Support? • All of the Language Arts Support classes are changing this year! • Reading Comprehension (Mrs. Jimenez) • Writing Conventions (Mrs. Lehman) • Writing Organization (Mr. Felix) • Your child may be changing classes depending on what he or she needs help with the most • Changes will occur at the beginning of each trimester, not mid-trimester • All Support classes are held during second period so your child can easily move to the class that he or she needs! 

  4. What will the homework be like? • Homework is typically assigned only if an assignment isn’t finished in class or if more practice is necessary • Homework is written in the planner, and planners are stamped by Mrs. Lehman to verify that homework is written correctly • Most homework assignments will be stamped for completion • If your child’s homework was submitted and graded, look for both a stamp and handwritten score

  5. How will my child be graded? • Grades will be determined by a total number of points earned • Grade Scale: • A = 90-100% • B = 80-89% • C = 70-79% • D = 60-69% • F = 0-59%

  6. Is late work allowed? • Yes! • Late work is accepted until the Friday before trimester grades are due • Late projects will lose 10% of their original value for each day they are late • Regardless of when submitted, all late in-class and homework assignments will lose 50% of their original value (work must be complete)

  7. When can my child receive make-up instruction or extra help? • Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays • Before School (8:15-8:30) • During the First 15 Minutes of Lunch • After School (3:00-3:30) • Wednesdays • Before School (8:15-8:30) • During the First 15 Minutes of Lunch • After School (1:40-1:50) • Thursdays • During the First 15 Minutes of Lunch

  8. How will Mrs. Lehman communicate with me? • Your child’s planner • Mrs. Lehman’s website • Homework, electronic copies of assignments, announcements • Instagram & Twitter (@MrsKLehman) • Photos of homework assignments • Phone Calls & Emails * I return any emails/voicemails within 48 hours
