Exhibition Regulations
  • 901-19-07 Quality Assurance
  • Sponsors shall require exhibitors sponsored by county or independent agricultural societies or the Ohio exposition commission to annually attend or complete a quality assurance program sponsored and conducted cooperatively by the exhibition sponsor, Ohio state university extension, Ohio agricultural education, or agricultural commodity organizations.

  • Alternatively, at the discretion of Ohio state university extension, or Ohio agricultural education, an exhibitor may pass a test based on the appropriate skill level for their age (twelve to fourteen or fifteen to eighteen) under the supervision of Ohio state university extension or Ohio agricultural education before exhibiting terminal or partial terminal market livestock, including market poultry, lactating dairy cattle and lactating goats in a junior livestock show.

  • Youth who pass the test will be exempt from annual quality assurance re-certification until they move to the next age bracket or they are no longer a junior exhibitor (nineteen years of age or older on January first of their last year).

Swine IdentificationPursuant to Part 71.19 of the Code of Federal Regulations:
  • If swine will be going to a licensed livestock facility following sale; OR
  • If swine will be going out of state for slaughter; OR
  • If there are out of state swine present at the exhibition, THEN
  • One of the following forms of identification will be required:
    • Official eartag; OR
    • Four-digit tattoo.

  • All sheep and goats are required to have official scrapie identification unless they are wethers less than 18 months of age.
  • Sheep and goats born after January 1, 2002 must have official USDA identification and be identified to the flock of birth

901-19-05 Responsibilities of an Exhibition Sponsor
  • This is a mandatory rule.
  • Every sponsor of an exhibition shall appoint a person as its records official. The records official shall receive and maintain the drug use notification forms filed under rule 901-19-06 of the Administrative Code.
    • The records official shall reject any drug use notification form that is incomplete, illegible or unsigned. At the close of the exhibition the records official shall turn over the drug use notification forms received by him to the sponsor.

  • The sponsor shall maintain all drug use notification forms for a period of one year from the close of an exhibition. The drug use notification forms shall be made available to the department for inspection and copying upon request.
  • Review the submitted drug use notification forms prior to the show for compliance with paragraph (I) of rule 901-19-06 and rule 901-19-07 of the Administrative Code.
  • Review the submitted drug use notification forms for compliance with paragraph (B) of rule 901-19-38 of the Administrative Code if applicable.

  • No person shall submit an incomplete, illegible or unsigned drug use notification form
  • If a DUNF is incomplete, the exhibitor shall correct/complete the form prior to:
    • Receiving any prizes or awards for that exhibition
    • Participating in the show or sale for which the DUNF was completed

  • The DUNF must be complete and legible
  • This includes exhibitor info, animal ID, animal information
  • Check the Yes box re: QA if completed annually or passed a test administered by OSU Extension
  • If the animal has not been given any medication or the withdrawal time has elapsed, the box must be checked

  • If the animal has been given a medication, the Treatment Chart must be completed
    • Treatment date
    • Condition
    • Medication name (be specific)
    • Amount given
    • Route (IM, IV, SQ, Oral)
    • Instructed withdrawal (# of days) – If questions, call ODA
    • Date withdrawal complete
  • When in doubt, write it down

DUNF Information
  • If the medication is not over-the-counter, it must be prescribed by a veterinarian. If the animal was given a prescription medication, the veterinarian’s name and address must be listed below the treatment chart. If a veterinarian did not prescribe the medication for the animal, it is an illegal use of the medication!
  • If the medication is over-the-counter, but NOT labeled for the species being treated, it must also be prescribed by a veterinarian.

  • The exhibitor must sign and date the DUNF. If the exhibitor is under the age of 18, the parent or guardian must also sign the form. By signing the DUNF, the exhibitor and parent/guardian (when applicable) are attesting to the fact the DUNF is complete and accurate.

    • White copies of DUNF must be reviewed by Records Official or designee PRIOR to show and immediately forwarded to ODA following review
    • UPS envelopes and pre-paid labels are distributed with the DUNFs. Please make sure the person mailing them back receives the envelopes and labels to avoid delays in returning the forms to ODA.
