  2. Background Super, you found some good web sites thanks to search engines and some great strategies. But are they really the right ones for you? The web site might have all the right words on it, but if you don’t understand it, is it going to help you? NOPE!

  3. Objective By the end of this lesson you will know: • The importance of reading for understanding. • Being honest with your reading ability can help you the most useful web site for you. • The meaning of this first strategy, “Count to 5 -Then Wave Good-Bye.”

  4. Lesson Have you ever found yourself re-reading the same thing over, and over again because it didn’t make sense? Were the words too difficult? It has happened to all of us, be honest with yourself!

  5. This can be a good thing because we have the opportunity to learn from each other. We also have access to experts from across the world, on almost any topic. Anyone can put a web site on to the Internet. This can also be confusing. The web site might be written in another language, or meant for older people. The information could also be wrong, so be careful, and stay safe.

  6. Today’s lesson: Count to 5 - Then Wave Good-Bye This is a strategy to help you decide whether the web site is going to be helpful to you. As you read the web site, raise one finger at a time whenever you come across a difficult or confusing sentence or phrase.

  7. When all 5 fingers are up, you have tried hard enough. This web site isn’t for you. Wave good-bye and try another web site. There are lots more websites out there. Get it? Count to five, then Wave good-bye.

  8. Use a variety of search engines, and search engine strategies to find the best web sites for you. With millions of web sites available out there, we know you can find one that can make sense. Have fun, and remember…… Count to five, then wave good-bye and move onto another web site.
