  2. Flexible Tubing Flexible tubing can be purchased at a home improvement store in the plumbing department. This particular piece was precut to a 10 foot length.

  3. Setting up the Bungee System Attach the flexible tubing to two objects in the lab. This is tied to the feet of two modular stations in the lab. The stations do not move and allow for the bungee to be tied 7 1/2 feet from the impact wall – this distance can be adjusted for your particular setting. Note: The tubing should be pulled tight between the two base objects – tension applied.

  4. Setting up the Bungee System View of testing mechanism facing the impact wall. The bungee is 7 1/2 feet from the impact wall.

  5. Level 1 – Starting Position for Vehicle Vehicle behind stationary bungee Vehicle facing impact wall The nose of the vehicle is place 18” behind the stationary bungee. This allows the vehicle to be 9 feet from the impact wall on the initial test run. Note: The distance to the wall is always from the nose of the vehicle.

  6. Level 1 - Testing The bungee is pulled to the back of the vehicle and then released propelling the vehicle into the wall.

  7. Level 1 - Testing Notice that the vehicle has impacted with the wall and the bungee has returned to the initial position.

  8. Level 2 - Testing Notice the additional tension placed on the bungee at Level 2 of testing. The nose of the vehicle is now 10 feet from the impact wall.
