  2. Start Codon • Signals when to begin decoding a segment of DNA or RNA. • Codes for the amino acid Methionine. • Is the sequence ATG (in DNA) or AUG (in RNA).

  3. Stop Codons • Signal for the end of a DNA or RNA sequence. • Does not code for any amino acid. • There are three possibilities: TAG, TAA, TGA (in DNA) or UAG, UAA, UGA (in RNA).
