WHO strategy for reducing deaths from drowning based on: • Making sure that as many people as possible can swim and be safe in water Increasing Participation • Educating children about the dangers of swimming in unsafe waters and parents on the need for proper supervision Education Ensuring that there are properly trained lifesavers who can provide immediate resuscitation and first aid Raising Standards • Physical barriers, fences and walls, to prevent accidental immersion

  3. Two Programmes for Increasing Participation • Swim Academy for multi-site operators of pools or swim schools • Swim Star Swim School for single site pools or swim schools

  4. Objectives • Make swimming a “fun” activity • Provide programme variety • Engage with the local community • Involve those with special needs • Educate children and parents on water safety • Reach out to schools • Maximise income for operators
