  2. Where in the world is this country located? Give a geographical location using specific vocabulary in your description such as continent,ocean,hemisphere,bordered by sea, neighbours. New Zealand is an island country within the south western Pacific Ocean. The country is made up of two islands The North Island and the South Island and a whole lot of smaller islands. NZ is approx 1500 kms east of Australia and Approx 1000 kms south of the Pacific island nations (Fiji, Tonga and New Caledonia).

Milford Sound is named after Milford Haven in Wales, while the Cleddau River which flows into the sound is also named for its Welsh namesake. Mt cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand reaching 3754 metres.

It is used on all our top sports teams uniforms . The Maori name for it is ponga. The kiwi is our native bird and they are flightless. All New Zealanders are known as kiwis around the world. kiwis are protected due to low numbers.
