UN System Joint Efforts in Advancing Gender Equality in China Preventing and Responding to Domestic Violence through Multi-Sectoral Cooperation Domestic Violence is an absolute violation of basic civil rights UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women • Ca. 25% of Chinese women have been abused, assaulted, restricted in their personal freedom, economically controlled, and/or forced to have sex in intimate partner relationships • 4 UN Agencies jointly implemented a program to prevent and respond to domestic violence in China through a multi-sectoral approach • Multi-Sectoral Domestic Violence Response Model has been established in Ningxiang (Hunan), Jingyuan (Gansu) and Yilong (Sichuan)

UN System Joint Efforts in Advancing Gender Equality in China UN supports the drafting process of a Law dealing with Violence within the Family UN Task ForcesupportsLaw Drafting Processes • China has no national family violence law • UN Task Force supports the National People’s Congress and the All-China Women’s Federation in the drafting process, by providing technical inputs

UN System Joint Efforts in Advancing Gender Equality in China Projects funded by the CGF China Gender FundforResearch and Advocacy 1st batch; 2nd batch; 3rd batch; 4th batch; 5th batch • CGF grants fund to innovative projects that: • Conduct research on contemporary gender issues • Advocate for gender-responsive policies, development plans, and programs

UN Series of Equity Papers Gender and Equity Paperas part of the UN Series of Equity Papers Gender and EquityPaper • Focus of paper: Economic benefits to society gained through gender equality • Paper is being written by two Chinese experts, one economist and one gender expert • Paper to be finished in September
