  2. Location • Continent and country • 2,000 miles south of Asia • Pacific and Indian Ocean surround Australia • Located in southern hemisphere • Coastal areas highly populated • 80% live along eastern coast in urban areas(cities like Sydney and Melbourne)

  3. Climate • South of equator-seasons are opposite of those in North America (summers are Dec-Mar….winters are June-Sept) • Northern-tropical climate and gets more rain than any other part of Australia • Desert-little rain…less than 10 inches a year • Southeast and southwest corners have a temperate climate-summers are not too hot nor too cold. This climate is liked best.

  4. Natural Resources • Bush-remote countryside • Outback-dry interior • Mining takes place for coal, iron ore, copper,tin, gold, silver, uranium, nickel, zinc, oil and natural gas. • Lead the world in production of diamonds, lead and bauxite(from which we get aluminum). Also, arable land.
