  1. WHAT ARE THE EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES FOR LEGAL EMPLOYEE RETENTION?

  2. When an infectious respiratory virus threw a spanner in the works. Due to the pandemic, the world has shifted its ways. How we work, learn, and go about our day-to-day activities changed thanks to imposed social restrictions and health protocols.

  3. The pandemic also caused the job market to face several challenges regarding employee retention. But does this remain true for all types of business? For law firms, the added restrictions did bring challenges, especially when it comes to hiring. But with the already high-paced field coupled with the stress of the health crisis, retaining the lawyers they hired proved to be a priority.

  4. Why are legal employees leaving? What is prompting an era dubbed by many recruiters as the Great Resignation? It all still boils down to how the pandemic dramatically shifted the workplace SOPs. Legal employees, in fact, all employees for that matter, got a taste of the work-from-home setup during the heightened lockdown phase.

  5. However, this necessary arrangement proved to be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, a considerable number wants to retain this setup. But on the other hand, many are severely burned out because of the situation. The clear line delineating the physical space between home and work is blurred or even gone by working from home. People used to say one should leave work in the office to enjoy simple pleasures at home and in life. But with position-related duties and responsibilities being accomplished at home, it seems like there’s no such thing as a day off.

  6. Other industries may have experienced massive losses and layoffs en masse, but the exact opposite is happening in the legal world. The demand for legal expertise remained strong, and there has even been an increase in significant litigation matters. But despite getting swamped by additional workload and tons of economic opportunities, legal employees now view their work from a different lens. The physical and mental health concerns that lead to burnout are just one of the two factors a legal search firm may want to strategize against to improve legal employees retention.

  7. 3 Ways to Improve Legal Employees Retention Improving legal employees retention should be every law firm or legal search firm’s battle in the time of the Great Resignation. What would be some effective and sustainable ways to do this? Below are three:

  8. Audit the current setup of your firm to see how well you are utilizing the space. For example, do you have areas or rooms where employees can meet up and strategize? Foster a collaborative environment What office layout will work best for your employees? Do they thrive in the privacy of enclosed cubicles, or is the environment more collaborative in an open (still safely distanced!) space? If your firm is working on a remote setup, investing in office productivity or collaborative software can also help ease communication within the team.

  9. The thing about productivity is that it is subjective. So what would make an employee be in the zone won’t be the same for another. Be The same is still valid in the new normal. Flexible Some legal employees have fully adapted to the work-from-home setup and would like to remain that way.

  10. They found the perfect balance between work and play, have a dedicated workspace, and handle their day-to-day tasks without a hitch at home. Other employees, meanwhile, may still be drawn to the office setup. They long to work alongside colleagues and are generally happy within the firm's walls. There would also be associates who want a third option: the opportunity to listen to their brains and work wherever is conducive. They can be productive at home or in the office—it all depends on their mood for the day. With the pandemic forcing us to realize our very own mortality, work-life balance has become very important for most, if not all, employees. Being flexible with work arrangements by providing your associates with setup choices is one way to support and validate this need.

  11. In the firm’s establishment history, several exit interviews and other suggestions must have been aired out by the legal employees. This feedback must be taken into account and be used as the basis to improve the company’s culture. Improve the company culture A culture that works for the majority of its employees will boost morale and show that the company is willing to listen. In addition, open communication, negotiations, and improvement for the better may make employees want to stay.

  12. With the whole world prioritizing health and work-life balance, implementing changes in the workplace is a must. Legal firms must ensure an environment where associates feel valued, safe, and united to boost employee retention. To Wrap It Up
