  1. Media studies evaluation: Question 1 By Sam Wade

  2. In what ways did your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real life.

  3. Use of conventions My product used several features which cold be associated with real life and they were: • I was able to adapt the stereotypical stigma attached to those commonly associated as rich and how they would be represented in a documentary. • The fly-on the wall approach was also adapted off classic documentaries in an attempt to generate realism.

  4. Develop upon conventions Here are some of the ways in which I was able to adapt upon existing conventions. • In terms of the camera angle and in regards to how I shot it. In order to allow for some extra fluidity I kept the camera rolling throughout the entirety of the short in order to make it look as much like a documentary as possible.

  5. Challenging conventions There were a few ways In which my piece was able to challenge the norms and conventions of media and these were; • The fact that my documentary was set in a school masquerading as a rich mans club. This helped to create a direct contrast between the rich and poor whilst establishing what is reality. • Using a fixed and steady camera rather then moving it around and changing it. This was another way I was able to challenge the general norms and conventions because my piece was able to highlight the indie theme whereas the majority of most documentary's are big-budget triple A projects such as the ones produced by David Attenborough. • If this was a real life piece then the camera angle would be constantly moving and as such by keeping it fixed I have been able to challenge the real life conventions.
