  2. French Fry History! • The French Fry was invited in Belgium in the late 1700s. In Belgium they first started frying fish, but when it got too cold out, they started frying slices of potato instead! French fries are called “frietkots” or “fritures” in Belgium.

  3. Different names for the French Fry! The French Fry was originally from Belgium but during World War 1 the French took them and claimed that they invented them. That’s why they are called French Fries today. But the Spanish call them “truffles”, the British call them “chips”, and in Belgium they are called “frietkots” or “fritures”

French Fry Ingredients & Step Process • IngredientsPotatoesVegetable OilSalt (optional)Directions-Peel and wash potatoes.-Slice potatoes into 1/2 x 1/2 inch strips.-Rinse or soak potato strips in water.- Let dry for about 5 minutes.*Drop potato strips into hot (375 degrees) Oil*Fry until golden brown. (about 5 or 10 minutes)*Remove from pot and drain on paper towels.If you're using salt, sprinkle it now!

FUN FACTS! • French Fries account for more than ¼ of all potatoes sold in the United States. • Other people, like the British call them chips because they are sliced thicker, so that’s why here in America they are usually called “shoe string” fries. • An estimation of 80% of households in the UK buy frozen fries each year. • French fries with the potato skin still left on is considered vitamin rich! • People in Belgium consume the most French fries out of all the countries in Europe.

More Fun Facts! • 11 million tons of French fries were made in factories in 2005, WORLDWIDE. • McDonalds sells more than 1/3 of all the French fries sold in restaurants in the United States. • The average American eats 30 pounds of French fries each year. • Thomas Jefferson served French fries during his presidency in 1801-1809

  7. How do you burn off the calories after you eat McDonalds French fries? • To burn off the calories in a medium order of McDonald’s French fries, you would need to do: • 58 minutes of cycling • 90 minutes of bowling • and 47 minutes of high impact aerobics. And that’s just a medium order!
