  1. The Irish Times, 16th May 2010

  2. What Decawave Do… Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) • Up to 11,000 assets can be located in a radius of 20m while moving at up to 5m/s (the speed of a forklift truck) to a precision of 10cm over an extended range beyond 500m; • Dramatically reduced power consumption: operates off a single watch battery for up to 10 years or using energy harvesting

  3. Project Need DecaWave is a chip company and not an antenna company and must ensure that suitable antennas exist on the market so that adoption of the chip is smooth for customers. Partnership with Academia Decawave identified suitable antenna designs and expertise in the Dublin Institute of Technology that complimented their product to antenna supplier partners to ensure the technology can be fully integrated at a customer site. With the antennae optimised for use with Decawave’s chip, this would ensure that the chip has a superior performance over other offerings using off the shelf components. Why Innovation Partnership? .

  4. Outputs from Project • DecaWave signed a module and sales agreement with the Korean electronics giant LG to develop the world’s first low-power ultra-wideband chip. • The company is filing three patents for its technology and is also finalising a significant investment round

  8. Aerosol Drug Delivery Aerogen Core Business

  9. Problem Aerogen encountered fatigue/corrosion fractures to the vibrating plate that arose during life testing. Initial investigations undertaken by Aerogen with their supplier were unable to resolve this issue. A field failure of these devices would require a recall until the problem is resolved.

  10. Aperture Plate Oscillator Washer Vibrational Element Medication Cross Section of Aperture Plate Aperture Plate AerosolDroplets • Core element of the aerosol generator • Electroformed metal sheet with built-in tapered holes • Individual aperture plates are formed on wafers • Each plate contains over 1000 tapered holes Aperture Plate Aperture Plate

  11. Research Approach

  12. Eradication of Fractures across the Aerogen Range 82% Reduction in Internal Scrap >130% increase in Process yields (at supplier) 65% reduction in piece part cost to Aerogen Local world class R&D expertise Cost Saving >€0.5 million/year (Achieved) Research Benefits Aerogen
