  2. BASIC FACTS • Intergovernmental organization established 27 Feb 1969. HQ in Moscow; • 21 member states (Governments); • Associated partners (private business) ~ 50 partners from 14 countries.

  3. ICSTI Member States

  4. ICSTI MANDATE • Facilitate and support international co-operation in science, information exchange, technology transfer and innovations; • Provide services in the field of scientific and technical information; • Assist small and medium innovative technology-driven business.

  5. OPERATING PRINCIPLES • Governing body: Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives – high-level officials appointed by governmental agencies of ICSTI member states; • Headquarters – management and implementation; • Network of National Focal Points – governmental agencies (science and R&D, technology and innovations, education), national centres of STI; • Partners –organizations in member/non-member states, international agencies (UN family, EU, etc.), business companies, individual researchers.

TRADITIONAL ICSTI ACTIVITIES • Development of and on-line access to data bases (R&D results, meta-data, technology offers, business, etc.); • Development of information tools (thesauri, software); • Analytical reviews and market research; • Capacity-building projects; • Publications; • Conferences, exhibitions, workshops.

  8. COOPERATION WITH INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS • Development and distribution of information products (software, thesauri); • Translation, publication and distribution of newsletters, bulletins, other information materials; • Capacity-building projects; • Regional meetings, workshops, etc.

THE MAIN TASKS OF ICSTI DURING 2005-2008 • Development of mechanisms for promotion of innovative activity and provision of related analytical support. • Information and analytical work. • Information, organization and methodology support to innovative and technological sphere. • Assistance to entrepreneurship

Information, organization and methodology support to innovative and technological sphere • Development and establishment of the Innovation Promotion Network (IPN) of the ICSTI; • Publishing of the international journal “Information and Innovations”; • Evolution of the portal “Business-office for innovative and technology-driven organizations” and Internet-platform for networking; • Organizingof international seminars and business meetings on issues of exchange of technologies, scientific, technological & innovative cooperation.

Main Targets of IPN • Creation of opportunities for direct access to and exchange of the information between participants of the Network. • Provision of a wide range of intermediary services in the field of innovation and technology transfer. • Development of a mechanism supporting SMEs of ICSTI member states in innovation and technology related projects.
