  2. Circa €80 BILLION * Horizon 2020 is now expected to receive €78.6bn in current prices over the next seven years and includes funding for nuclear research under the EURATOM. The final budget is an increase of nearly 30% in real terms compared with its predecessor, FP7.On this basis, the budget agreed for Horizon 2020 was €70.2bn. This baseline is adjusted for inflation (assumed to be 2% a year) over the lifetime of the programme to get to amounts in current prices. Current prices represent the real money that will be requested to the budget authority and finally distributed to beneficiaries through calls. *

Horizon 2020 Funding – Key Points • Started 1 January 2014 to end of 2020 • Grants available for co-financing innovative R & D projects • Advance development of projects moving closer to market • Generally, grants require a consortium of a minimum of 3 independent organisations from 3 different EU Member States • Consortium partners can come from industry or academia • Introduction of Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) • Funding for Research and Technological Development activities is generally 100% lower TRLs 2 -4 and 70% TRL 5-8 • New SME Instrument which needs just 1 SME in the main • Overall shorter timescale to grant receipt planned • IP is retained by the project partners • Grant is payable annually in advance
