Black Americans • The majority of black Americans concentrated in the southern states of the USA, mostly living in cities (80%) • Large concentrations of Black Americans in northern cities. Washington, Detroit, Chicago and New York. • Reverse migration to southern states now a factor
Hispanic • Important to distinguish the groups that make up the Hispanic population. These are: • Mexican • Puerto Rican • Cuban
Mexican • 75% Located in states close to Mexican border: • California(40%) • Texas (15%) • Arizona (5%) • New Mexico (5%)
Puerto Rican • New York city ( port of entry) • New Jersey
Cuban • Mainly settled in state of Florida
Hispanic Population • Fastest growing group in the USA • Hispanics now overtaken Black americans as the biggest ethnic group. • Majority of people living in the states California and Texas will be of Hispanic origin very soon.
Asian American • Mostly concentrated in California • Chinese make up the largest group of Asian Americans • “Little Koreas” or “Little China Towns”
Native American Indians • Biggest concentrations in states in the West and South • Reservation living
