Latvieši ir lielākie kartupeļu ēdāji Eiropā, kartupeļiem ieņemot teju galveno lomu latviešu virtuvē. • Kartupeļi tiek pagatavoti dažādos veidos - vārīti, cepti pannā vai ar visu mizu folijā un grila, saberzti biezenī ar sviestu un pienu, kā papildinājums salātos un zupās. • Tradicionāli tos vāra un pasniedz, pievienojot svaigi plūktas, sasmalcinātas dilles, kas lieliski papildina jauno kartupeļu garšu un smaržu. • Bet latviešu virtuves klasika ir vārīti kartupeļi ar biezpienu un siļķi. • Tiek ceptas arī kartupeļu pankūkas, ko pasniedz ar lasi, sēnēm vai brūkleņu ievārījumu. • Latvians are the biggest potato eaters in Europe, because potatoes take almost a major role in Latvian cuisine. • Potatoes are cooked in a variety of ways - boiled, baked or fried in foil and grill, mashed puree with butter and milk, also as a complement to salads and soups. • Traditionally potatoes are boiled and served by the addition of freshly picked, chopped dill, which complements the flavour of new potatoes. • But Latvian cuisine classics are baked potatoes with curds and herring. • Latvians also bake potato pancakes, served with salmon, mushrooms or lingoberry jam.

  3. Nepieciešamie produkti / Necessaryproducts: • 400 g kartupeļi, • 0.5 l piens, • 300 g siļķe, • 200 g biezpiens, • krējums, • zaļumi (sīpolloki), • sāls. • 400 g potatoes, • 0.5 l milk • 300 g salted herring, • 200 g curds, • sour cream, • greens (scallion etc.), • salt.

  4. Pagatavošana / Preparation • Uzvāra nomizotus kartupeļus, nokāš ūdeni, ar stampiņu samīca putrā, pielej pienu, lai izveidotu vēlamu konsistenci – biezāku vai šķidrāku. Pievieno sāli. • Boil the peeled potatoes, drain the water, mash potatoes with a pounder in the puree, add milk to create the desired consistency - thicker or thinner. Add the salt.

  5. Sajauc bļodā biezpienu un krējumu, pievieno nedaudz sāli, var pievienot zaļumus. • Uz šķīvja liek kartupeļu biezeni, sagrieztu gabaliņos siļķi (var ņemt jebkuru, kas garšo) un biezpienu. Dekorē ar zaļumiem. • Mix curds and sour cream in a bowl, add a little salt, you can add also the greens. • Put on the plate mashed potatoes, chopped in pieces salted herring (you can take any one you like) and curds. Garnish with greens.
