  4. What’s different? Qualifications are more skills based than before – includes application of knowledge and understanding Outcomes are broad-based leaving flexibility for combining or integrating assessment when appropriate Introduction of Non-question paper component to Courses

Key Messages • Supports aims, purposes and principles of Curriculum for Excellence • Provides opportunities to build challenging, coherent and enjoyable learner journeys through all levels • Builds on existing strengths and best features of Standard Grade and Intermediates • Focuses on specific skills sets in Units with opportunities for hierarchical skills to be developed and integrated throughout the Courses • Added value assessments that consist of question papers, assignments and practical activities - as appropriate for the Course

Assessment Overview • SQA is currently developing Course and Unit assessment support • Course Support will consist of specimen question paper, specimen coursework and Added Value Unit support as outlined in the Course Assessment Specifications • Unit Support will come in three packages – published in October 2012, February 2013 and April 2013 • Package 1 will mainly exemplify a Unit by Unit approach and will illustrate how evidence can be generated to meet the requirements of each Unit
