    3. DEGREE PROGRAMS Generic Diploma RN to ADN LVN to RN Transfer Credit By Examination Short intro of the programs offered. Generics – most students enter at this level. They might have experience as CNA, Med Asst or health aide or NOTHING LVN to RN-a “step-up” program to advance LVNs to RNs. LVNs enter the 2nd yr. of the program Transfer- Not merely transferring science or general ed courses from another college but nursing courses. Advise students against this. It is better to remain where you start or you probably lose a semester Credit By Exam- college policy where you can challenge courses based on your knowledge & experience.     4. EVENING/WEEKEND PROGRAM The E/W Section has been placed on hold until we can secure additional faculty. This option has always been contingent on faculty, funding, and facility availability. PREREQUISITES MATH COMPETENCY Intermediate Algebra Math 56, 60 or higher ASSET test score COMPASS test score The nursing prerequisite math class is identical to the college’s graduation requirement. If a student needs clarification of their class, refer them to a counselor. Here at Palomar, students must complete Biology 102 or a pair (Chem & Biol) from a selected list. If student feel she has equivalent of prereq (i.e.., Biol 102) he should be referred to the Life Science Dept for their recommendation or if he completed a 3 units science class (Anatomy, physio, micro) and wants to argue that it meets the requirement…refer him to Life Sciences. Although our courses are 5 units we will accept 4 semester units (local equivalent courses are posted on the website. Time Limits: Time Limits are frozen once student is placed on Wait-List. N118 (second semester) includes maternity & Peds...many corpsmen to not have this content. Don’t spend a lot of time explaining all this at the orientation. APPLICATION PROCESS Complete Application Packet Application Proof of high school graduation or higher Transcripts from all colleges (except Palomar) Completion of all prerequisites or a work-in progress form. For entry into the program, unofficial transcripts are accepted, but students must submit official ones to the Evaluations Office prior to graduation. I used to require official transcript and then had to make copies for my file & forward officials to Records Office. It took time and was expensive for all the Xeroxing.     14. SELECTION PROCESS All eligible applicants are placed in 2 groups: A and B A = all prerequisites are done. B = prerequisite(s) is in progress Most students apply with work-in-progress (Group B).     16. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS NURSING SUPPORT COURSES Psychology Sociology Speech English These courses are required by the Board of Registered Nursing. Student needs to complete 3 semester units in each with C grades or better. (no time limits). See brochure for those classes EXCLUDED from selection. Not to announce here but there is some leeway in the Psy/Soc area since the BRN lists those classes with the sciences for a total of 16 semester units.     18. TEAS EXAM This is a diagnostic test that covers Math, English, Reading & Science. Effective Fall 2008 all incoming students will be required to pass this exam with a cumulative score of 67%.     23. LICENSURE NCLEX ENDORSEMENT CEUs The NCLEX is a national test. Once you pass it you are an RN in all states except Maine and No. Dakota. Not disappointed…too cold! Reason, these states do not have community colleges that offer nursing so all nursing grads are BSN. If you leave Calif, you do not retake the test, but there is a paper work exchange and filing fees. CEU – Continuing Education Units- promoted life-long learning. In order for your license to remain current, CEUs must be completed. Easy to do, can read journal article and do a self-test.The NCLEX is a national test.
