  1. 6-3&6-4: Bar graphs, frequency tables and line plots

  2. Bar Graph • What is a bar graph? • A bar graph is used to compare and display data in vertical or horizontal bars. • Example: Inches Biomes

  3. Inches Reading a Bar Graph Biomes • Which biome has the highest yearly rainfall? • Rainforest • Which biome has the least amount of rainfall? • Tundra • Approximate the range of the rainfall data for the biomes. • 150-25= 125

  4. Create a bar graph to model the given data Billion Metric tons Continent

  5. Double Bar Graph Years Countries

  6. Frequency Tables • What does the word frequency mean? • Frequency refers to how many times a specific value occurs in a data set. • What is a frequency table? • A frequency table lists items together according to their frequency in the data sets

  7. EXAMPLE OF A FREQUENCY TABLE • Using tally marks: • Each student in Mrs. Chloe’s class recorded their fingerprint pattern. Which type is most common in Mrs. Chloe’s class?

  8. MAKING A FREQUENCY CHART WITH INTERVALS First step is to decide what you intervals should be. Find the smallest number and the largest number.

  9. LINE PLOTS • What is a line plot? • A line plot uses a number line and x’s to show frequencies of values. • Example: Students in Mr. Lee’s class, each ran several miles in a week. Create a line plot of the data. X X X XXXX X XXXXX 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
