Terminology Services

This research project, led by Diane Vizine-Goetz, aims to expand the value and functionality of terminology resources in libraries. It explores innovative approaches for representing and viewing knowledge structures, new service delivery models, and vocabulary distribution methods. The project also focuses on developing services that accommodate an increasingly diverse user environment, providing libraries with enhanced resources, such as cross-vocabulary mappings and custom web services. Potential service directions • Metadata authoring support • Vocabulary lookup/validation web services integrated into editing interfaces • Domain-specific subsets of vocabularies: • Packages of low-cost, lightweight, rich subsets of DDC, LCSH, etc. targeted to meet the needs of specific audiences (e.g., classics scholars, learning object repositories) • Distributed vocabulary input for editorial maintenance • Channel for queuing corrections, suggested additions, changes from distributed users to editorial staff Vizine-Goetz - NKOS workshop ECDL2003 - 21 August
