Purpose of the session Introductory Session • To introduce trainers, Multitech Business School (MBS) and CrossRoads • To introduce trainees, their business and experiences • To share challenges and expectations of the trainees • To outline the training course, methodology and processes • To brief trainees on housekeeping and welfare modalities

  4. Introduction Introductory Session The CrossRoads project is to improve the financial management skills of contractors. The project is funded by DFID and EU to support the National Construction Policy. Multitech Business School through open, competitive bidding won the contract to train contractors countrywide.

  5. Objective of the training Introductory Session • The CrossRoads project is intended to: • Increase public institutions’ ability to manage the road network better and • Increase the capability and competition in the road sector. • Specific objectives for the training are: • To assist road contractors in Uganda to acquire financial and business management skills, knowledge and capabilities that will enable them to better manage their businesses; • To empower the roads contractors to more effectively interact with financial institutions and employers for mutual benefit.

  6. About Multitech Business School Introductory Session MBS mission is to provide applied knowledge and competences that stimulate trainees to create jobs . The vision is to become a leading provider of applied knowledge and competences in the region. A leading trainer of professionals: accountants, purchasers, auditors and ICT in ACCA, CPA, CIPS, and IIA. A trainer of professionals in CISCO and Microsoft certifications. Awards certificates, diplomas, degrees and PGD in a range of courses eg Business Administration, Public Administration, Accountancy, Human Resources, Marketing, Procurement, information technology, computer science, secretarial and others.

Multitech Business School Consultancy & Research Unit Introductory Session MBS conducts consultancy services in all areas of business management leading to workable business solutions such as the following: Market surveys. Strategic and business plans Feasibility studies Capacity Needs Assessments (CNAs) Shortterm staff development training. Business clinics and advisory services. Investigations and forensic audits Applied and basic research

Content of the training programme Introductory Session • The training will be 15 days spread over a period of 6 months with the following main modules: • Road Sector Business Environment-3 days • Projections and Business Planning- 2 days • Management Reporting and Budgeting- 2 days • Finance and Risk Management- 3 days • Banking and Insurance- 2 days • Costing tenders, procurement and resources management- 3 days (deferred on request by client)

  9. Training methodology Introductory Session Applied knowledge and skill Adult learning model Short presentations to stimulate/tickle trainees A lot of group discussions and presentation Summary of key issues Agreeing on application of knowledge

Assessment Introductory Session Mid course assessment after third module Evidence of dedication (attendance and interest), comprehension of key concepts and application of previous module skills onto the job. Each group to present a business plan and a bank application. Final assessment at the end. An award of a joint certificate. Possible credit units towards a PGD in future.

Housekeeping issues Attendance and punctuality is critical Sign the attendance register whenever provided Moderate allowances may be paid in accordance with terms of the funding agency Hand outs should be filed and files carried to all sessions For any administrative issues contact the logisticians

CrossRoads message to trainees Introductory Session • It is your responsibility to get the most out of this course and to take back and implement the learning to your employers. • You have a responsibility to your fellow participants to; • Participate in full, • Be on time, • Share your knowledge, learning and experiences, • Use your new network and consulting experience of the trainers, • Respect each other by listening with attention and trying to help each other.
