  23. Consortium • LON-CAPA Academic Consortium • Michigan State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign founding members • Documents received legal signatures in April and May 2006, respectively

  24. Consortium • MSU and UIUC committed $200k/year for 5 years toward LON-CAPA project • $2M for 5 years, same amount as ITR grant (but without overhead) • Funds are in-kind, i.e., provide personnel and other services and resources toward project

Consortium • Consortium has a board that governs and coordinates: • Future directions of the project • Major functionality changes • Content cluster membership • Consortium membership • Annual conferences and workshops • Policy issues • Public relations • Financial development and grant-making

  26. Consortium • Core members: $200k/year for five years, one full-time programmer: four votes on board • Sustaining members: $125k/year for five years: two votes on board • Associate members: $50k/year for three years: one vote on board

  27. Consortium • Things that can count toward membership: • Programmer salaries (at least 25% appointed toward project) • Support staff • Documentation efforts • Major content development efforts • Conference sponsorship

  28. Outlook • Hoping to increase both cluster and consortium membership • Start collaborations with other educational content sharing projects, for example the German CampusContent Project

  29. Outlook: Functionality • Integration of symbolic algebra system • Currently testing Maxima • Collaboration with University of Applied Sciences at Wolfenbüttel, Germany

  30. Outlook: In-Class Use • With Mazur group at Harvard and Bill Junkin at Erskine Imported, currently being cleaned up

  31. Outlook: Public Portfolio • Set access rights for portfolio content to “public” • Advertise the content

  32. Outlook: RSS, Podcasts, Calendars • Download due dates, etc, into iCalendar on PDAs, etc. • Announcements on RSS • Podcasting of portfolio items, published documents, lecture video, etc. • Mobile learning
