  1. My name is Lenmana it means “flute girl”. This is my story…

  2. Journal Entry 1 Part 1 May 23 “Lenmana! Lenmana!” I heard someone called my name it was my mother. I put the water pitcher I was carrying down. “ We need that water now!” She cried some of our clay was a little dry and we needed some water to dampen the clay so we could make our clay pots, my culture always makes clay pots with bright colors. “ Okay, I’m coming” I called back to her. I the dragged water pitcher all the way to our pueblos. ( pueblos are our houses.) As I dragged the pitcher inside I could here my grandma and my mother working in the kitchen they were grounding different plants and fruit together to make paints or dyes. “Mom,” I called “I'm home.” “Put the pitcher on the floor Lenmana, we have something to talk about.”

  3. Journal Entry 1 Part 2 May23 “They are getting married?” I questioned. “Indeed” grandmother said “Lomahongava is old enough and they were brushing each others hair when we went in to town today.” Lomahongava is my sister ,she had always liked that boy, I don’t really know his name even though he is in my tribe. People brush each others hair when they are getting married in my tribe. All of the sudden I felt angry I thought me and my sister were best friends but ever since she met that boy she has been spending more time with him. “As the chiefs youngest daughter I expect you to not take this to harshly.” said mom and I stormed out of the house.

  4. Journal Entry 2 Part 1 Sorry about that I just got so angry that I had to get out of there, usually when I’m angry I paint but I was just so angry I couldn’t hold the brush so I decide to go for a walk instead. I live in what you people would now call Arizona so as you can imagine its usually very hot there and we hardly get any rain. Today it was especially hot, so it was not very wise to march into the desert without any water but I was angry.

  5. Journal entry 2 May 23 PART 2 Anyway its very hot and dry here during the day, at night it is cool and you can see the stars. My tribe usually eats beans, squash, pumpkins and corn, me and my sisters personal favorite. Oops, I forgot to tell you what year this is I mean you could be reading this in 2013 or something right, even though that’s wishful thinking. Its 1585 I was born 11 years ago on, April 12.

  6. Journal entry 3 Part May 23, 1585 As I was out in the desert pouting I did not see the darkening sky until it was too late. Then I felt a raindrop on my arm “oh no!”I cried out to no one in particular. I ran for the village my heart pounding inside my chest, I reached our pueblo just in time. Panting I stumbled onto my bed. It doesn't usually rain here so the storm took me by surprise. It is almost always sunny, hot, and dry here. .

  7. Journal entry 3 part 2 I heard rain pounding on the roof but that wasn’t what worried me, what worried me was that I saw Lomahongava and that boy they were dashing into the house. I walked to the kitchen and saw mother shucking corn “Come over and sit with me." she beckoned. I started to shuck corn peeling the smooth leaves and found bright yellow kernels underneath. After supper I laid down on my bed and slowly fell asleep.

  8. Reflection 1 # January 16, 1586 Lomahongava got married on June 23, 1585 and she looked beautiful in her dark blue blanket dress and cotton shawl. Lomahongava has a new home and mother is pregnant, each day I practice making pottery. Grandmother has taught me everything she knows. I hate to part with journal, but I will be so busy helping mother prepare for the baby that I will not be able to write in it. Well, mother needs me now so I better get going. Goodbye for now!

  9. Reflection #2 I think I did well on this project because… I explain about my tribe and did every thing that was required. I liked this project because I got to tell a story from a native American's point of view and make up a character who has similar emotions and feelings as I do. I disliked that we had to explain all information on our tribe.
