  7. SNHU at a glance SNHU is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution based in Manchester, New Hampshire. SNHU currently has three distinct yet interconnected units: • University Campus with 3,000+ students in a F2F model • College of Online and Continuing Education with 75,000+ online/hybrid students • College for America with 3,000+ students in a B2B online model • SNHU is one of the fastest-growing online universities in the country. @ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

  8. CBE at SNHU SNHU is currently working in a number of competency models: • CFA has all of its students in a true competency-based model in which students provide prove of achievement of a set of listed competencies to earn an academic degree (two associate and three bachelor degrees). • COCE is currently piloting an accelerated learning track using a diagnostic test and customized learning plans leading to a comprehensive summative assessment. They are also exploring more pure CBE options that would fit with in the financial aid system’s policies and procedures. • UC also has accelerated learning paths, including the “Degree in 3 “ bachelor programs, “3+1” masters programs and the “College Unbound” initiative which all involve students displaying competency in course outcomes through out-of-class project-based work under the supervision of a faculty mentor. They are also exploring more pure CBE options that would fit with in the financial aid system’s policies and procedures. @ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

  9. CBE at SNHU SNHU has had successes already across its competency models: • CFA has all of its students in a true competency-based model in which students provide prove of achievement of a set of listed competencies to earn an academic degree (two associate and three bachelor degrees).

  10. CBE at CFA CFA Facts: • First university in the nation to be approved for federal financial aid under the U.S. Department of Education’s direct assessment provisions, independent of traditional credit hours • First nationally available, fully accredited $10,000 Bachelor’s degree • Awarded the U.S. Department of Education’s “First in the World” grant—one of 24 schools out of roughly 500 applicants nationwide—for groundbreaking research on improving developmental education • A founding member of the Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN) • Associate of Arts program is composed of 120 competencies @ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

  11. CBE at CFA CFA Facts: • Does not accept open registrations – works with companies to provide educational opportunities to their employers. • The first student to earn an associate degree did it in under 6 months. • Graduated its first students in May 2016 • Utilizes faculty facilitators and assignment graders • $3,000 per year fee to students • Largest partner is Anthem Insurance @ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

  12. CBE at COCE COCE is piloting an accelerated learning path in one bachelors program: • Students have completed up to three or four courses in a single term during which they would normally have completed two at most. • Shows great possibility in the general education area • Potential to reach large numbers of students. • Students take a pre-diagnostic test for each course they wish to accelerate through. Then they enroll in a standard course and based on the results they do the entire course, work only in identified areas of weakness before attempting the summative assignment, or they go directly to the summative assignment. Summative assignments are mapped directly to the course outcomes/competencies. • Once they complete a course, they can move into another for which they have done the diagnostic. @ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

  13. CBE at UC UC has a series of accelerated learning path options: • The degree in three program allows a student to complete a four year degree in three without taking classes evenings, weekends and summers. • Moves some of the in class learning experiences outside the classroom • Several hundred students now enrolled • Have graduated two groups from the program and have received very positive feedback from employers and students. @ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016
