  3. What are community forests? “Any forestry operation managed by a local government, community group, or First Nation for the benefit of the entire community” (province of B.C.)

  4. Through the “Forestry Revitalization Plan” and timber allocation, the BC government is dedicated to diversifying the forest economy and creating new opportunities. • Approx. 1.2 million cubic metres of timber will be available for small tenures i.e. community forests & woodlots.

  5. Benefits for communities New options for recreation management New options for wildlife management New options for watershed management New sources of revenue for locally determined objectives & interests

  6. New sources of revenue Revenue can be used to support local priorities Harvest rates can be set by community Harvest locations can be set by the community.
