  2. My name is Eleanor Skinner.I am an economics teacher for grade 12.   3. Standards Addressed • 12.2 Students analyze the elements of America's market economy in a global setting. • 2.1 Students understand common economic terms and concepts and economic reasoning.

  4. Learning Expectations • To guide economics students in the use of the stock market index • To become more proficient at creating standard based lesson plans and web pages.

  5. Learning Outcomes • Economics students will record their loss or gain at the end of the project. • Standard based lesson plans published on website and accessed by other teachers for use in the classroom.

  6. Successes • Students learned how to read the stock market tables. • Students learned how to figure a 1% commission on all sales and purchases of stock. • Students really enjoyed this class project the most.

  7. Shortcomings • There were not enough computers for the students to access their online research and we did not have a printer. • The school does not buy The Wall Street Journal; consequently, I brought mine from home each day.

  8. Student Data • Pre-tests and post-tests were given on how to read the stock market index. • Results were divided into 5 skill levels according to test scores. 1. Superior 90-100 2. Very Good 80-89 3. Good 70-79 4. Improvement needed Below 70

  9. Revision • Next year, I will take my classes to the media center where there are more computers for the students to be able to do their research. • I had only one computer for my classes. I did not have a printer which was a real problem for my pupils. • With all of our difficulties, the students enjoyed the project very much which was the most important thing.

  10. Summary • This last year has been a very interesting one, indeed. There is so much to learn about computers. I have learned a great deal from my students and from this program. Several times I nearly quit. However, my very good friends and mentors would not accept this. I did complete the program and am very pleased that I did. I hope the program continues , because it is of real value.
