  2. Exercise- GTS • Explore GTS than just GIS application and see what you can find • Find your w: drive path and create a shortcut on desktop • Mapping drive • \\slkgis2\work with another letter if you mapped marble for w: drive

  3. Files • Copy the following folder to your own w: drive • \\slkgis2\work\srm\prg\Workarea\mayuen\ILMB\training\Data\Tier2_training\ • Tier2_training folder • If you can’t connect, use the ftp site from internet explorer • ftp://ftpprg.env.gov.bc.ca/pub/outgoing/for_Matthew/

Exercise- Projection/ArcCatalog • Using ArcCatalog, use the “connect to folder” button and locate your working folder in the w: drive • Inside Tier2_training/Projection folder, reproject the BC only from BC Albers to UTM 10 • UTM Path • Projected Coordinate Systems/Utm/Nad1983/NAD 1983 UTM Zone 10N.prj • BC Albers • Projected Coordinate Systems/National Grids/Canada/NAD 1983 BC Environment Albers.prj

  5. Exercise- LRDW • Regional SDE Server Info • Server: slkux12.env.gov.bc.ca • Service: 5154 • Database: srmprod1 • User leave blank

Exercise- LRDW • Add the major cities from LRDW in ArcCatalog • WHSE_BASEMAPPING.BC.MAJOR_CITIES_POINTS_500M • Zoom into Fort St. James • Add BaseMapping 250k_base_mapping from TSAT • Look around • If you have time, try adding in 20k_basemapping from TSAT (remember it has to be 1:20000 scale or under to be viewable)

  7. Exercise-Map Making • Create a map in of Prince George, with a key map of BC linked, and with the following data • Cut Block Data (ften) • DRA (Digital Road Atlas) • Parks and Protected area • Water and lakes

Exercise – Selection/Export • You can work as a team or by yourself • Add the Forest District LRDW layer from either TSAT or ArcCatalog • TSAT name = Forest Districts – Incosada • LRDW name= WHSE_ADMIN_BOUNDARIES.FADM_DISTRICT • Select only Prince George • Export it and save it as a shapefile • Select Fort St. James again, but make a layer file this time.

  9. Editing Exercise • Create a new polygon shapefile • Bring up DRA Digital Road Atlas • Zoom into Prince George • Draw a box for this building we are in right now • Draw more buildings if you want

  10. Xtools Exercise • With the building you created on the previous exercise, calculate hectares of the shape file • Convert the Polygon to Polyline • Explore other functions in Xtools

  11. Exercise Imagery • You will be working in a group of 2 • Find Orthophoto, and landsat5 321 band colour of Fort St. James from the R: drive • Hint • LRDW layer for major city of BC is • WHSE_BASEMAPPING.BC.MAJOR_CITIES_POINTS_500M • Turn on Labels and always check attribute table if you are not sure

  12. Exercise DEM • Continue working in a group of 2 • Find the elevation data for Prince George • If you have time, compare with hillshade, slope, and aspect data
