What is STRESS?? • Definition: Stress is the body's reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response. • Also known as the “Fight or Flight” response. • Stress is caused by an existing stress-causing factor or "stressor."
Stressors: • Where do they come from? • any situation or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, or anxious. • School • Work • Relationships • Self • Stressors trigger the “FIGHT OR FLIGHT” response.
Eustress vs. Distress Eustress: Stress that is deemed healthful or giving one the feeling of fulfillment. Increase performance. Example: Athletes in a tight game Distress: great pain, anxiety, or sorrow; acute physical or mentalsuffering; affliction; trouble. Example: Being attacked, Being laid-off, Failing a class…etc.
