Stress Management. What is STRESS??. Definition:  Stress is the body's reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response. Also known as the “Fight or Flight” response. Stress is caused by an existing stress-causing factor or " stressor .".

  2. What is STRESS?? • Definition: Stress is the body's reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response. • Also known as the “Fight or Flight” response. • Stress is caused by an existing stress-causing factor or "stressor."

  3. Stressors: • Where do they come from? • any situation or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, or anxious. • School • Work • Relationships • Self • Stressors trigger the “FIGHT OR FLIGHT” response.

  4. Fight or Flight

  5. Eustress vs. Distress Eustress:   Stress that is deemed healthful or giving one the feeling of fulfillment. Increase performance. Example: Athletes in a tight game Distress: great pain, anxiety, or sorrow; acute physical or mentalsuffering; affliction; trouble. Example: Being attacked, Being laid-off, Failing a class…etc.

  6. Individual Perception • It’s how we perceive and react to an event or situation that matters!! • Not everyone views stressors the same way.

What are 3 Different types of stress? • Acute: (Most Likely to Cause PTSD) • Sudden Trauma • Being Attacked • Car Accident • Intermittent: (Can Cause Mild Anxiety…Most Common) • Test at School • Traffic Ticket • Sporting Event • Chronic: (Most Harmful to Physical and Mental Health!) • Poverty • Chronic Illness • Bullying
