4. Our First Initiative • A fresh recyclingprogram in the school • As of this next week, all classrooms and offices will have recycle bins • All bins will be marked in some way, either on the bin or with a sign above

About Recycling • In Baltimore County, recycling is single stream, meaning you can recycle different materials in a single bin • These materials include: • All paper products including newspapers, magazines, and hard/paperback books • Plastic and glass jars and bottles, with or without a recycling symbol • Aluminum cans • Cups and water bottles • All lids, caps, labels, and rings

6. About Recycling • Take advantage of the recycle bins to recycle all that you can, so we can cut down the trash BT produces • You cannot recycle: • Food/candy wrappers • Plastic bags • Plastic cutlery • Styrofoam

Our Next Initiative • To eliminate Styrofoam from BT, and replace it with a more eco-friendly choice • Styrofoam, or foamed polystyrene, is one of the worst materials we can use: • Manufacturing it involves the combustion of petroleum, which releases harmful gases and other solid/liquid toxins • It contains styrene, an EPA-classified possible human carcinogen, which can leach into foods • Disposing of Styrofoam is nearly impossible, seeing as it cannot be recycled locally and virtually never decomposes
