  2. Overdrive Gearset Overdrive gearsets combine two simple planetary gearsets so that the ring gear of each gearset is connected to the carrier of the second set. The transmission described as Version 2 is the DaimlerChrysler 41TE; its first designation was A-604. Similar models are the 42LE and 42RLE. Tom Birch, 8/06

  7. Synchronous/Overlap Shifts This is a transaxle with synchronous, overlap shifts. One clutch is released as another clutch is applied during upshifts and downshifts, and these events must be carefully timed or synchronized. Electronic controls help this happen seamlessly. Tom Birch, 8/06
