  2. Overdrive Gearset Overdrive gearsets combine two simple planetary gearsets so that the ring gear of each gearset is connected to the carrier of the second set. The transmissions described as Version 3 are: General Motors: 4T60E & 4T65E Ford Motor Company: AX4N & AX4S Tom Birch, 8/06

  7. Nonsynchronous/Freewheel • The three one-way clutches allow nonsynchronous, freewheel upshifts. • The input sprag overruns during the 1-2 shift. • The 1-2 roller clutch overruns during the 2-3 shift. • The 3rd sprag overruns during the 3-4 shift. Tom Birch, 8/06

  20. Variations, AX4N, AX4S The Ford AX4N (top) and AX4S (bottom) use similar gearsets. Both have the same gear ratios: 1st-2.8:1, 2nd-1.5:1, 3rd-1:1, 4th- 0.7:1, and Rev.- 2.3:1. The AX4N is a nonsynchronous transaxle while the AX4S is a simpler synchronous transaxle. Tom Birch, 8/06
