Roald Dahl Born in Llandaff, Cardiff, to Norwegian parents on September 13th 1916 He served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, in which he became a flying ace and intelligence agent, rising to the rank of Wing Commander. He could speak three languages - English, Norwegian and Swahili
