  4. Take out your materials! • You’ll need your quote sandwich, your article titled “How to Ruin Thanksgiving, an Hour-by-Hour Guide for Shoppers,” and your partner from last time! • You may also want to take out the quote sandwich handout I gave you.

  5. Let’s Review • Explain to your shoulder partner what you now know about direct quotations. Tell them as much as you can remember, and add to anything that he or she has said when it is his or her turn.

  6. Let’s share

  7. What are parts to the quote sandwich? Context Signal Phrase / Reporting Verb Quote Explanation

  8. Let’s finish up our quote sandwiches • If you were absent, you’ll need to see me for an explanation of what we covered last class. • With your partner, you have ten minutes to finish your quote sandwich. • Be ready to share after the ten minutes are up!

  9. Now get up! • With your partner, find another set of partners to share your quote sandwich with. • If the other pair’s sandwich is stale, please tell them what can be improved, what might be missing, and also what their strengths are!

  10. Let’s make some more sandwiches! • Come get materials, please!

  11. Editing Quote Sandwiches • Let’s do the first one together. • Then, you can practice on your own.

  12. Works Cited • In your table groups, answer the following questions: • What is a works cited page? • Why do we need one? • What purpose does it serve? • Where does it go?

  13. Sample MLA Works Cited Page

  14. Some good resources for citations. • 7th Edition MLA Handbook • Purdue Owl – owl.english.purdue.edu • EasyBib – easybib.com • Son of Citation Machine – citationmachine.net

  15. Let’s Practice with Books • Take a look at your worksheet and find the template for book citations. • I’m now going to model the process for you. • Now, I need each of you to get a book from the shelf. Make sure each member of your table group has a different book.
