Aaliyah: My Musical Inspiration and Escape

Growing up, music shaped my world, especially influenced by my mom’s love for Mary J. Blige. However, it was Aaliyah’s classic tunes, especially "Rock The Boat," that truly captured my heart. Her unique voice and classy style resonated with me, making her a lasting favorite. Aaliyah’s untimely passing in 2001 left a void in the music world, but her legacy continues to inspire. Through music, I find a way to express emotions that are often hard to articulate, providing an escape in a complex world. She will always be remembered as the "Princess of R&B."

  1. How It Started When I was little, my mom use to listen to the radio everyday, especially when she cleaned up. She would play Mary J Blige's "What's The 411" album all day long and it stuck with me.

  2. R.I.P Aaliyah Aaliyah Dana Haughton was one of my first favorite artist. The first song I heard from her was "Rock The Boat." I loved her voice and her style. It was so different and wasn't sexual like other artist but it was mature and classy but a sexy feel to it. Once I started watching her music videos, I knew she would always be my favorite. Aaliyah died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001 with eight others such as producers, make-up artist, etc. I hated the fact that she wouldn't be able to make music anymore but to me she was a young musical legend. Aaliyah will always be remembered by everyone. She was the "Princess of R&B."

  3. The Connection Music allows me to express feelings that I really don’t know to express on my own. I realized there really is a song for every emotion that we. Some people don’t feel “free” living in this world. There’s always something going on around them that they don’t think they can handle, I am one of them. The remedy I chose to escape everything but understand what to do or why it is happening is music.
