  1. Summer Research Training Program • an opportunity to participate • in virtually all aspects of a research project with the guidance of a faculty research mentor. • This includes: • reviewing literature • helping design a project, if not already done; • doing the project; • analyzing the results; and • presenting your findings at Student Research Forum

  2. Major points • Identify a mentor (at KUMC or outside University) • Applications due April 1, 2013 • 8 weeks of 40 hours/week = 4 units of credit • 4 weeks of 40 hours/week = 2 units of credit • 8 weeks of 20 hours/week = 2 units of credit • Summer Course on Research (4 lunchtime lectures) • You can write a paper or present at the Student Research Forum or National Meetings or all of the above to receive academic credit.

  3. Broad Research Scholarship Areas • Basic and Translational Science Research • Clinical Science Research • 10 Scholarships of $1,000 each • Competitive application process (66 students last year)

  4. Additional Sources of Support • Individual Faculty will supply scholarships • Training Grants • Pharmacology and Toxicology Training Grant • Neurological and Rehabilitation Training Grant • Cancer Center (Announced in Late March) • Frontiers; Heartland Clinical and Translational Research

FrontiersHeartland Clinical and Translational Research • Mentor supported Research Experience • $1,000 tuition assistance • Coordinated summer course that can be used as credit toward a Masters of Clinical Research Degree (1 year between M2 and M3) • http://frontiersresearch.org/frontiers/research-education
